Quite a testament to Morgan's winemaking and vineyard sources that this 14-year old "basic" zinfandel is still kicking ass. Brambly and peppery, just like what I like in a zin, with an almost port-like nose. Unctuous, zippy, and a bit hot on the back end, this leaves a pleasant warming sensation in your chest like a good Scotch on a winter evening. Leather, blackberry and pomegranate notes add complexity. Trails off a bit on the back end, but really quite good. Well-stored bottles like this one (purchased at release) should continue to drink well for 5+ years.

Medium ruby. On the nose pronounced aromas of black cherries, blueberries, blackberries, toffee, vanilla, and some violets initially. On the palate the wine is dry with medium plus acidity, high alcohol , medium fine grained tannins, full body and pronounced flavors of black cherries, blueberries, blackberries, toffee, vanilla, as well as dried cherries and blueberries. The finish is medium. the wine is good as it demonstrates intensity on both the nose and palate as well as some complexity with primary (black fruits fresh and dried, floral notes), secondary aromas however the wine lacks balance with alcohol burn on the finish and a short finish. Good weeknight wine.

Consumed over 2 nights. Well, this bottle was significantly better than the one I drank 3+ years ago. The goopy extracted fruit is gone. Now it drinks like exactly what it is, an entry-level zinfandel from a decent producer. Nothing terribly exciting, but nothing wrong with it. Primarily fruit-driven with nice ripe red round fruit, enough acidity to keep it balanced. Price-appropriate.

Compared nicely vs. a '12 Turley Old Vines at the same 6-person meal. Higher-toned than the T (which we all found to be quite an interesting variance...not sure which was favored among us...just...different), but balanced and just as rewarding; huge florals, and the lengthy impression on the palate was quite nice.

Goopy...goopy...goopy. Jeez, I haven't had a top-tier wine this out o' wack since Brian Loring's '06 Pinot Noirs! Then it was the season, the harvest, yadda yadda. ..a terrible vintage. But why now? This vintage? A shocker, I tells ya!
So here I am getting the same unctious flavors...no balance, nothing savory, not at all spice-driven, no "brambles" in MY glass fo' so', not showing any acid backbone to offer some balance...sup wid dat???
sez 15% on the label, but I bet it's more 16+++.
There are other "Old Vines" at this price point that are lighter, more nimble, showing the spice and maybe even something like the "T" word, even though I know that's not 'really'possible from all the locales these grapes come from, but "Old Vine" from a serious producer should not be showing this flabby, purple resin.
Think I'll open a '10 to tomorrow (Memorial Day) to see whazzup. Check in over there to see my thoughts...
An opaque wine with dark core and bright crimson rim. On the nose there are notes of sour cherries, raspberries, wild strawberries, blackberries, dried rose petals, licorice, incense, and crushed stones. Smooth textured with intense flavors showing sour cherries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries that continue on the midpalate where it intermingles with dark chocolate and licorice. The finish is long filled with candied red fruits, black pepper, creamy vanilla, smooth polished tannins, and steely mineral finish. A mid bodied wine with concentrated flavors, purity of fruit, and just fully delicious.

Purple in color. 15% ABV. Ripe, brambly fruit, lavender and vanilla on the nose. Full bodied and packed with fruits. Just a touch of acidity. Licorice, white pepper, blackberry and raspberry on the palate. Finishes strong with with noticeable tannins. Drink over the next 2-3 years while you wait on the Heirloom wines to blossom.

Liked this a lot. Dark cherry in color. Lots of cherry on the nose with some earth and licorice. Cherry, blackberry, pepper, earth and minerals on the palate. Drinking well at the moment. Went well with some indian food; samosas, tandoori chicken and lamb with cashew sauce.

Wonderfully delicious zin. On Pop 'n pour, this was smooth, drinkable, and had fruit showing. It wasn't over the top. Great color with some spice. This was my daughter-in-laws first zin! Glad I have some leftover for tasting tomorrow night.

Same as Prior TN's. This is a wonderful Zin at this price point. Wife(whose a real Zin lover) says buy more immediately. M.T.Peterson is a wizard at Zin, and this entry level bottle makes me long to open the single vinyard selections we have in cellar from this winemaker. Wicked good, Jammy berry Zin, with white pepper and all the right stuff. Blew through the two bottles we had..

I liked the 2010 quite a bit, but this one was too much for me. To copy and paste from someone else : Jammy black fruits, simple palate, ripe. Needs more acid/tannin. Enjoyable as a cocktail wine. I enjoyed it the most on day 4 (under argon) when it had calmed down a little.

A really nice Old vine zin. Deep inky garnet color, not transparent in the least. Loads of Boysenberry, vanilla, and baking spice on the nose. Earth and Game to match the Jammy fruit burst on the palate. Lacking alot of depth, but a really nice Zin with alot of character.

No formal notes, quaffed last Sunday with burgers. Just delicious and open right now. Great combination of fresh Zin fruits blended with subtle spice and complex herbaceous notes reminiscent of autumnal vegetation. A bit lighter in body than the Bedrock SVD's, it seemed elegant in profile, and especially more so than the typical CA Zin behemoth.

From a bottle that had been opened about 2 hours, but not decanted. Deep, dark maroon color. Brambly berries, black pepper, dark chocolate, vanilla, plums, minerals and a floral note on the very nice nose. Medium to full body with solid tannins and decent acidity. Loads of fruit and spice on the palate with a very nice black pepper component. Fairly long finish with the peppery berries and a bit of an earthy element lingering nicely. Still young, could use some additional cellar time.

15.0% alcohol. A pretty quickly evolving wine. I think it's essentially drinking as well as it will. Spicy black-fruited nose, with a touch of heat manifesting itself. In the mouth, dense and concentrated, with focused and juicy fruit that doesn't take on any jammy qualities. A nice drink that's structured enough for rich food. A-

No formal notes as this was passed around the table. Nice bramble and spice as expected w/good mouthfeel - better than the last bottle I had popped during the summer. For me, could have used a bit more grip to balance out the fruit and texture, but for the money, a fine drink. Not sure if age is going to bring anything else out of it.

Better integrated than my bottle from October 2010; still somewhat burly and generally black fruited, but more approachable and hiding the alcohol just fine now. A plum jam / molasses note -- are the flavors integrating or stewing? -- gives it a simpler impression than I was expecting. In a better place now and probably peaking over the next 2 years. Could use a touch more acid and a touch less ripeness.

Consistent with prior note, and this definitely benefited from lying down for a while. Father in law's first Bedrock, and he loved it. Indeed, we all did. Decanted briefly, and the last glass was the best. So, 30+ minutes of air and it's in business.

Thanksgiving 2011: Brambly and concentrated, with deep dark berry aromas and flavors. Not particularly long, and not as suave as a cab might be, but stood up very well to a variety of foods. Seemed like a good value too.

What a difference a year makes. Popped and poured and ready for business. Classic Zin nose with brambly red fruit and a bit of spice. Great mouth feel with soft texture followed by nice grippy tannins. Crisp finish provides a well-balanced wine. Much improved since my last bottle that needed a few hours to open up. This is a great zin.

Decanted about 30 minutes to help it open up. Deep, dark maroon color. Brambly berries, loads of black pepper, baking spices, dark chocolate, nice minerality and a slight floral note on the very nice and open nose. Medium to full body with solid, chewy tannins and very nice acidity. Loads of fruit and spice on the palate with the brambly berries and pepper leading the way. Long, spicy, peppery finish. If you don't like black pepper in your zins, look elsewhere, me, I love it. Still a baby, I'll wait at least 6 months before opening another, if not longer.

Enjoyed this wine over 2 days as part of Zinday for some of us on Twitter. This one is just a baby but after soem time in the glass it comes out of its shell. Lovely fruit and spice on the nose and palate. After having this I wish I had kept my other bottle, but had given it away for someone to try a Bedrock wine hoping that they to would catch the bug. Love the texture and spice in these wines. The best way for me to put it is they are just very enjoyable with food or just having a glass by itself. Bedrock turned me into a Zin fan about a year ago and am glad to be on their list.

Disappointing at first but with time and air I started to feel lucky I was on the Bedrock list. This improved dramatically and was much better than all the previous bottles of this wine that I've had. Should probably hold all Bedrock reds for at least a year or two after release.

Strained for sediment (like all Bedrocks, even young ones, this one had quite a bit) and then decanted approx. 30 minutes ... Immediately out of the bottle this was a bit on the sweet-tart side for me, but with just a bit of air it began to round out nicely. Crisp and clean, yet smooth, this is what I'd term a "summer weight" Zin. Bright fruit up front, with a medium finish and just a hint of cocoa and spice. Big, but not overbearing. Very nice.

15% ABV. Woodsy nose right off with a lemony (lemon oil?) nuance. Medium full bodied with yeasty black fruit in a more claret like package than I would ordinarily expect from a 15% ABV Zin. Secondary peaty/mossy nuance. A bit different, but fairly interesting.

Really nice example of what California Zin can still be...recalls what I loved about the variety when I was first discovering wine, i.e. before a typical Zin was a jammy, boozy, oak-laden piece of crap. (Frank Family, I'm looking at you!) This one, after a 1 hour decant, is almost pure enjoyment, with fine tannins backing up a blackberry and bramble profile, with bits of cream, spice, and mintiness along for the ride. For the price, this is kind of hard to beat. For Zinfandel, it is definitely hard to beat. Overall impression: a really enjoyable quaff with a correct balance that elevates it beyond the typical. Not cerebral, but showcasing both the virtues of the variety and the sure hand of a wise winemaker. Glad to have a few more of these...drink now or hold for a year or two max.

Tart, high-toned red fruit. Solid, straightforward zin, but not much more. A bit disjointed at this point. Perhaps it needs more time to come together.

notes from day 2 nose: not particularly exciting, definite bramble, high-toned red fruits palate: Juicy raspberry/cranberry fruit is complemented by thick, but unobtrusive tannin and good acid, though the fruit itself is rather ho-hum. again, not particularly exciting, but pleasant enough. Certainly doesn't have the imbalance I associate with cheap or 'jug' wines, contrary to a previous taster's note, but doesn't have any wow factor really, to justify the over $20 price point. Fine drinking for now. Not sure I would re-buy at over $20, but then again, I do like a nice quaffable zin and this is surely that.

In a better place now than the first bottle I had right after bottling. PnP'ed through vinturi. Lighter in color than some zins. Really nize zin nose of black fruit and spice. Blackberry and pepper on the palate with a nice finish though not a long one. Really good balance for such a young wine. Seems to hide the 15% ABV. Really nice wine, but will probably continue to improve.

Strong zin nose. Spicy pepper, upfront blackberry fruit. Fizzy on the initial taste, like a little CO2 was there. It didn't take anything from the wine, just a slight champange mouthfeel. Fruit on the palate was tart. Enjoyable. Good QPR.

Extremely good, classic Zin with abundant, brambly blackberry aromas and flavors. The latter are accented by spice notes of white pepper and nutmeg. Very lively and bright, in spite of the depth of fruit. Nicely done.

Right now this isn't much better or different from my first bottle. I just don't have the same experience that others are having with these. To me they are just like cheap, home made wine. Just not my kinda Zin, at all. I had about a glass last night, so I'll track it over the next two nights and see if it changes. Right now, not lovin it.
Update - Had over 3 nights. It progressively got better each night. It never wowed me, but on the last night I was pleased that I wasn't disappointed. Got that? It elevated itself to acceptable from disappointing. There will be more of this available in the future as I won't repurchase.

Just as good as my earlier note, but I taste a little nutmeg coming out. So young, so good, so much potential. I just can't keep my hands off these. Day 2 update: super smooth, deep sweet tart berry, intense, concentrated, lingering. Oh so good. Morgan, bring on the spring release.

Popped and poured this one, but decanted an earlier bottle in December. Decanting helps, but it's hard to wait when this wine is in front of you. Raspberry/strawberry mint nose, bramble & spice with a little bite. Young, but very interesting. Morgan hit this one out of the park

Popped & poured, but it mellowed with air so I briefly decanted the rest. Plush and lush on the palate, Earthy and peppery on the nose with sweet, almost tart fruits. Didn't have a whole lot of stuffing so I'd go ahead and drink these within the next two years. My first Bedrock; not my last.

15.0% alcohol. Dark purple-red color. Fantastic aromatics on the nose, with primary notes of blackberry, blueberry, and spice. In the mouth, brawny but retaining a juicy quality to the fruit. Loaded with up-front fruit, backed up by pleasant spicy notes, just enough acidity, and a tannic finish. Very youthful right now, but the quality is evident. A couple more years will help, but I wonder if the comparative lack of acidity would give the tannins time to fully resolve. More of an early-term drinker, in my estimation, and a delicious one at that. A-

I’m surprised how well I’m liking this wine on P&P. I thought I’d be, so what? I mean it’s $22.50 not a lot in todays world. Instead the nose shows nicely focused lavendar, boysenberry with fig and a coffee chaser. I wish the palate had a bit more acidity with some gripping tannins, especially at this age. Thankfully, what’s there is sufficient to elevate this wines smooth flavor profile to quaffable status. Considering it’s price point and easy drinkability I vote this a definite qpr. Just don’t hold ‘em, drink ‘em up!

15% ABV. Popped and poured and given a little shake as it seemed to have some excess CO2. Slightly translucent dark garnet. Somewhat yeasty nose - youthful smelling and a bit Beaujolais-like, which I find off-putting. Medium full bodied with rustic red berry fruit. I'm chalking this one up as a flawed bottle.

DO NOT TOUCH!! This is way too young and needs time, time. There is some dark fruit here, but everything is so primary it is hard to unjumble it at this point. I will reserve judgment until a later date and a 2nd bottle.

Had two bottles. The first one was spritzy as hell. Couldnt get rid of it. The second one was a bit spritzy but after a long shake it was fine. Nose of raspberries and some herbs. The palate has more raspberries, a little motor oil and some savory herb notes. A hint of bitterness. Peppery, spicy midpalate. Tight finish. Alright, but not a blockbuster.

Notes from memory of past 2 nights. Perhaps a function of its youth, this is less polished and creamy while being broader and more rustic as compared to its competition. There's a black core structure that evokes Petite, with wild berry bramble, pepper, spice, and hints of black licorice and violets. Tannins come out with time. Full bodied and concentrated, but open-knit and showing some heat around the edges. Drink or hold -- try to hold.

Enjoyed with Creole Chicken and a Giants NLCS win over the Phillies. I 2nd the herbal nose. Was a nice start to this one. Took it's time to open up but by the 6th inning it was drinking pretty good. Fruit forward and a touch sweet but it was just right with the evenings events. Tannins did not show until late hour 2. The more air the better at this point. Great QPR @ $18

Decanted ~90 minutes, consumed with a dinner of spicy pork ribs. Not showing much on the nose at this point. Still very young and somewhat grapey, with a bit of a liqueur-like character and a nice fennel note. Well-balanced for its youth with good upside potential, but needs some time to come together.

You know you are committing vinfanticide when you pull the cork and it barely has any color on the bottom. This very young wine had a terrific balance of fruit and spice without being an over-oaked monster. It was still not completely integrated, which is to be expected for something that was probably bottled just a few weeks ago. This should age very nicely and only get better over the next couple of years.

Wicked good, Jammy berry Zin, with white pepper and all the right stuff. Blew through the two bottles we had..

Very nice.

Glad to have a few more of these...drink now or hold for a year or two max.

notes from day 2
nose: not particularly exciting, definite bramble, high-toned red fruits
palate: Juicy raspberry/cranberry fruit is complemented by thick, but unobtrusive tannin and good acid, though the fruit itself is rather ho-hum. again, not particularly exciting, but pleasant enough.

Update - Had over 3 nights. It progressively got better each night. It never wowed me, but on the last night I was pleased that I wasn't disappointed. Got that? It elevated itself to acceptable from disappointing. There will be more of this available in the future as I won't repurchase.

There's a black core structure that evokes Petite, with wild berry bramble, pepper, spice, and hints of black licorice and violets. Tannins come out with time. Full bodied and concentrated, but open-knit and showing some heat around the edges. Drink or hold -- try to hold.
