I think this might be the my favorite Champagne of the year so far. It totally caught me off-guard. I purchased it over a decade ago, and I was expecting there to be less effervescence, less verve, and less energy due to age, but quite the contrary. All the life was still there, and it has gained more weight than it had in its youth. But certainly does not feel heavy. The overall balance of this Champagne stylistically reminds me of a Tattinger Comtes de Champagne. I'm a little sad that this may be my last bottle ever of this producer as I don't believe it is imported into the US anymore.

My last bottle from this vintage, sad to see it go. Yeast and pear notes on the nose. Rich mouthfeel, with impressive weight to the wine but it was never heavy, just a true powerhouse. Great salinity along with pear and mild herbal aspects.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): Greenish color, larger bubbles; green apple, oak, fat and rich nose, almost coffee, pencil lead; rich palate, good refreshing finish, green apple, chalk comes in on finish; solid.

A Post 50th Birthday Celebration with Friends (The Grunzweig Wine Room, Los Olivos): This was my first of a 4-pack and dramatically outperformed my cautious outlook. Yeast on the nose, and some found notes of lavendar. Minimal bubbles. On the palate, there was impressive weight to the wine but it was never heavy, just a true powerhouse. Great salinity along with a clear pear aspect. Some lactic characteristics ("brioche") developed over time. Impressive acidity and a long finish. ran a surprise darkhorse campaign for WOTN but came up just short.

This is a rich BDB from Milan that i like but do not love. This is not a heavy or yeasty champagne but a champagne that is more about chardonnay and its fruit than chalk/salt. It does work well with food at the table!

No formal notes. Very creamy and lactic. Barely any bubbles and somehow flabby, lacking acidity. There's fruit underneath but this creamy, lactic note really bothers me. Not a fan, at least based on this bottle. Maybe an off bottle?

An elegant, aristocratic and stylistically correct BdB, with a heady mousse, and creamy mouthfeel. Dry but not austere, little in the way of oxidative/toast notes, medium to full-bodied, moderate finish. Somewhat one-dimensional, but though this wine is somewhat "obvious", it excels in its simplicity. Mostly citrus and pear in the flavor profile, but very clean, generous, and highly drinkable. An excellent apertif wine.

Good but not exceptional. For the price and the hype I expected more. Some cellar time may improve this one.

Day Trip to Champagne (Reims, Épernay, and the Côte des Blancs): Complex flavor profile of pear, lemon and brioche with a delicate floral quality. Nice balance.
