from .375 Fill just below top shoulder. Cork soaked nearly through. Cork slightly protruding. Slightly off smell. (paint thinner?). Not much fruit left. Slight blueberry. Good acidity. Slight paint thinner on the finish. -Flawed.

Oxidised. I bought 6 half bottles for fun, knowing that the provenance was poor. I keep hoping that one bottle will be OK, sadly not this time. 2 left!

Smooth fruit (red cherry, blueberry), nice acidity. Slight old room (in a good way). Nice spice. Somewhat young tasting. Really enjoyable. Lingering finish.

In Vino Veritas Session 4 (MIT): A little vegetal - raw broccoli (reduction?), otherwise just warm and pleasant. Seemingly pretty on the palate with warm fruit and smoky briquettes, but soon I realize that the mid-palate has sucked out my soul into the hollow space where deliciousness is supposed to be. The finish is almost Orphic - I try to forget the harrowing mid-palate behind me and enjoy the long, soft, wooded walk into the light, but I turn around at the last minute and stare back into the nothingness behind me. I want my soul back. 12%, bought for $95 in 1983 and laid down until today.

Upper shoulder fill. Opened and tasted immediately. Hazy dark blood-brick red. Wonderful old bouquet of red fruit, tobacco, river stones, juniper berries, roasted nuts, old leather, and madeira. Pleasantly tart on the palate, seamless with medium body and medium finish. Still outstanding 24 hours later under vacuum stopper.

The first two of 6 half bottles purchased recently at a very cheap price. Provenance is poor, no history known. So really tasted just for fun. The first was corked. Fearing the worst, opened a second which was just drinkable but faded within minutes. I expect the others will be similar.

Purchased recently on auction for $30, so I low expectations... this was pretty darn good, especially aromatically (lots of old attic, dusky leather, black tea). Very dry on the palate, this probably had much more fruit in the Carter administration. Still, it was suave and elegant, and a pleasant accompaniment to steak.

Medium red colour, lots of spices and very earthy, reminded me a little of the HB palette, an old style claret, lots of structure left, long and harmonious.

With K at home at dinner (tortellini in pesto). Good, healthy ruby color. Nose shows some fruit but is musty with a curious bubble gum component. Initial fruit impression on the palate quickly disappears into a short, watery finish that is somewhat bitter. 4-4-6-2: 66/100.
