Medium red shading to brick. The nose displays aromas of juicy black plum, blond tobacco and underbrush.Light bodied with nice depth and balance and a bit rustical tannins. It's still reasonably enjoyable but would now recommend drinking up.

Pale dusty crimson, garnet rim. The nose delicate but with good lift. Red fruits and blackcurrent, cedar and mint. The palate bright acidity, soft, well integrated tannins and delicate, femine flavour. Still good fruit notes but sitting behind, cigar box, cedar and eucaliptus. A moderate finish. For a wine of a relatively poor year, this has lasted exceptionally well and remains a delight to drink. No signs of fading but no need to wait a second longer.

Very aged colour - almost Burgundy-like. Nose is all about terroir here - wonderful splashes of liquorice, menthol, minerals. The fruit is metling away to leave a soft, wonderfully mature Haut Brion that oozes class and pedigree. Excellent.

mid ruby/tawny, showing signs of maturity. Pronounced nose of cedar, cigar box undergrowth. Some fruit, ripe plums, prunes. On the palatte, very fresh, tannins soft. still good level of acidity but totally in harmony with the fruit and tanninss. Still has a reasonable length finish. For its age and being mindful that 1991 was a poor year generally in Bordeaux, this was a very pleasant surprise. One bottle left and no reason to wait.

To be honest, I bought this so that I could try and see whether this whole first growth thing has anything to it. It's not a great vintage (BBR gives '91 a 5) but Haut-Brion has been around a long time and I was still expecting something pretty good. The dodgy vintage meant that I didn't break the bank (although I did hurt it quite badly, say a badly sprained ankle and a couple of cracked ribs). I drank it with friends, another bottle of Haut-Brion (a '93) and some cheese. It would probably have benefited from a little more time in the decanter, but it was challenging and complex, and I carried the taste around with me for a couple of days (which I think is good, by the way). Unexpected, rich, and I only really appreciated it's quality once it was gone and I was drinking normal wine again. On balance, worth it just the once.

Opened and double decanted 1 hour before drinking. Needs a little More time but overall a nice HB but needs to be drunk soon.

Wow !°
So elegant !
sweet parfumed with a bouquet of Violet - plums - kirsch-
tabac - slightly earthy -
great Bordeaux at premier Class
simply overwhelming - not thick and overboarding .--
but just elegant - like "less is More " ! ! !
94 of 100 points at least "!

6 1991 Bordeaux and a 1990 Beringer Private Reserve. (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Rich meaty nose with tobacco and smoke, rich fruit, tasty, chewy wine, good complexity, medium/long finish. My #5.
