The nose opens a bit messy, complex but not too harmonious with herbaceous notes, crushed black and red fruit, cheries, some caramel. Eventually it gets a bit cleaner and more elegant, but still here and there somewhat. Feels rather full bodied and again making wish for a better structure. Quite fruity with some red cherry, raspberry and herbal, almost minty notes. Bit spicy, metallic aftertaste with lingering cherry jam notes. It's not bad at all, but somehow awkward and a bit disappointing.

Savoury and complex. More like St Julian than Margaux.
Tasted alongside Wynns John Rodrick 2004 it’s a very different wine. Not better, not necessarily worse, but remarkably savoury, and perhaps showing some of the extraction that was evident in its youth.
13.5%, cork.

PNP once at the end of a Bordeaux tasting and this again disappointed. Seemed devoid of anything noteworthy. Finished the bottle (2 glasses) on day 3 of opening and this had improved significantly demonstrating some typical Margaux traits. This has either closed down temporarily or needs a lot of air before trying.

Solid left bottle for the vintage. Giscours rarely disappoints. Classic and enjoyable flavours with delicious fruit still. Lacks the energy from better vintages but still a nice bottle with steaks, chanterelles and truffle-butter.

PNP and this opened up with a beautiful nose of violets and vanilla, displaying all the typical Margaux traits and character. Once this subsided though, this became more and more disappointing. Austere or just one dimensional? Day 2 and there was a 'tartness' to this that dominated any fruit or tannin. For one small moment, blueberries and olives shone through but soon disappeared. This either needs a long decant or more time as this seems to be in bit of an awkward phase. Disappointed. (Purchased from Auction).

Decanted two hours prior to first taste, this was classic from the very first sip. Restrained cassis fruit, a touch of green tobacco, but then it added a little bit of blackberry to put just a dash of current vintages (even cooler ones) into the mix. Nothing overdone or out of place on the palate, it paired beautifully with a grilled pork loin. Moderately tannic, but with the fruit there’s no hurry. This should be excellent drinking for another 10-20 years for people who favor a more classic style of Bordeaux.

Wonderful bottle just starting to really show its age. Just a little less of a bottle than the one profiled in my note of 4-28-2017. I think time to drink up.

Quite nice Bordeaux, paired nicely with slow roasted beef tenderloin as our NYE dinner. Tasted alongside a 2007 Larkmead Cabernet, and the Giscours was more feminine, medium in body, and higher acidity. The wine showed some barnyard notes, lots of wet soil and gravel, with a refreshing and perhaps a bit bitter finish. Drink through 2024+. Quite good.

From magnum. Short 30 min decant and then drank over an hour or so. Surprise by the recent mediocre ratings here as this was showing very well. Medium bodied Bdx drinking at peak now in my eyes with a great balance of dark fruit and earthy notes and nicely integrated tannins. The mid palate could have a touch more concentration but this is 2004, and overall this was a pleasure to drink.

Dark cherry color with no signs of bricking. Lavender and ripe berries on the nose. Bursts with bright red fruit on the palate. Nicely balanced by layers of mushrooms, cedar and earth. 2004 remains an enigma. This is bigger and bolder than most Margaux I’ve tasted but drinking nicely right now. There is still plenty of structure so this will outlast its CT drinking window.

This is in a great place now. Not too ripe with fine tannins just a trace. Raspberries, cassis, red currants, nice minerality, a bit of black pepper, generous floral nose. Much better than the last bottle I had. Drink up,

Showing better than when I last tried two years ago. Gave it a long decant. Great aromas curled out of the decanter and licked around the room. Classy, confident Bordeaux. Not stellar and not likely to be, but good, well made, enjoyable.

Loved this wine a year ago, but the fruit has faded considerably. Bad bottle? Cassis and dark fruit still there but not as vibrant. Good acidity with fine tannin remain. Aromas either closed or tight.

Medium-dark red color. Perfumed blackberry, floral, and cedar aromatics. A soft, round wine on the palate with mild tannins in its somewhat short finish. Good fruit extract for the vintage. Delicious drinking today and will hold its plateau for at least 18 more months. If this wine had more length I would have scored it higher. That said, this is really a lovely Margaux. Absolutely textbook for the commune. A delightful hedonistic joy. ( Decanted for 45 minutes.)

Incredibly closed and boring right now, however plenty of fruit and structural left to suggest this will be good in the coming years. I will wait until 2023 before trying again.

Decanted for an hour. Quite expressive on the nose, with cassis and perhaps a touch of lilac, nice but not very exciting. The palate is showing age, tannins integrated, dark fruit, quite mellowed out. A nice wine, but not super amazing. This was the first "expensive" bottle I ever bought at the beginning of setting up my cellar in 2007. Been there since and ready now for drinking, won't get better.

My last bottle of a case of 6. Two were flawed , but this last one quite nice - a lot if red berries in the beginning - but unfortunately rather quickly fading away , no big development with air (no decant) . Still ok the 2nd day - no red fruits left although - time to drink up!!

Smoother than the last bottle and a floral nose but in the mouth tired not much coming through, decent with food but drink up, decanted for an hour no change after that and probably better if poured straight away, not enough to it to make decanting worthwhile.

The first impression is the freshness of the fruit. It is a slightly atypical Bordeaux with for Bordeaux standards a rather elevated acidity and very few bitter touches, so the balance is perfect. After some time the red fruits become accompagnied by ripe black fruits. There is some wood present, but it is only noticeable by some toasted impressions, giving the wine more depth. There is also a lovely spicy component. This wine performed above expectations!

A difficult vintage and not one I would normally purchase. Starting to fade and the nose a bit flat, fruit also starting to fade and the tannins still there , some spice and blackberry and some length, reviews do seem rather variable so it is pot luck on getting a good un ! in what is not a good vintage, as is this bottle is not worth the money but I took a chance with a dodgy vintage and paid the price.

I probably shouldn't have opened this on a random Tuesday night. A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot. Very nice nose of violets, blackcurrants, raspberries and beef broth. Fine grained tannin with good acidity. It has some of the grace and delicacy of a more mature wine but doesn't yet have some of the tertiary notes. Pretty delicious stuff and in a very nice spot. I have one bottle left which I will drink soon if I can lay my hands on it. But if I can't find it now, it will be fun to revisit years down the road.
Nice bottle. Opened s couple of hours ahead and decanted one hour before. First a bit acid which integrated with the decant and ended up in a great wine. Nothing to cover your thirst but a nice nearly intellectual sip with good food. Nor too heavy nor not too light just a really good bordeaux; especially for the vintage. Would drink up in the next two to three years.

Finally a 04 that delivers. After a series of sad experiences of the 2004 vintage in Bordeaux came a solid effort. Not surprisingly perhaps, it was delivered by one of the most reliable castles and house-favorite Chateau Giscours. Classic winemaking with 60% cabernet 40% merlot from deep gravel soils in Margaux.
Plenty of cedar and delicious cassis in the scent, earth and tobacco alternating as well as an underlying stable-scent that never gets top much. Not explosive but with a comfy and pleasant margaux perfume.
Good lift in the mouth with perfectly okay fruit and well-digested tannins. Black currants, plums, cigar box with some anise and a delicious minerality at the end. It is tasty, fresh and very suitable for our lamb chops with rosemary and lemon butter. Easy drinking with reasonable length without triggering deeper contemplation.
As expected, this is not the castle's best performance but one of the better interpretations of Medoc 2004 we encountered. Above all, it is both charming and refreshing, although the slightly dull fruit we find throughout the vintage is also noted here. For us it will be confirmation of Giscour's reliability as well as the limitation of the vintage. It was a good Bordeaux fix anyway.

Giscours has a so-so reputation ans 2004 is a difficult vintage so I was not too sure what to expect when I opened this bottle on New Year’s eve. What a pleasant surprise, Bordeaux at his best, wonderful aromas, great taste, medium bodied, perfect time to drink. Well balanced, fruit still present but not dominant, tannins tamed, would have given a higher note with a little less thick aftertaste. On the strong side to accompany lamb chops, would pair better with steak.

A good nose; berries; it has become more resolved since I last had it in 2015, but still structured for the long haul and still a tad clunky. Give it a few more years. This is no slouch, but the 2006 is a bit classier in my opinion.

UK Wine Forum 2004 Bordeaux (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): This was quite rich and not as well defined as the (2004) Pavillon it was served with, with red and black berry fruit, vanilla, a touch of smoke. Medium/full bodied, lightly smoky fruit, a touch of liquorice, soft tannins, good length finish. ***1/2

Hints of oak and black-fruits on the nose, elegent. Fine on the palate and very enjoyable. Typical Giscour with nice body and finishing, well balance but lack of complexity. Tannin is softener after decent for a few hours. Still younger for the age of this wine

Bordeaux 2004 (Stockholms Vinkällare): Cream fudge and sweet oak notes, with slightly confected fruit. Dense and extracted, with chewy tannins somewhat out of balance. Quite a lot of winemaking here. Should keep for another decade and the develop further. Least preferred in our lineup of six '04s.

I have been a fan of Giscours for a long time. IMO it is one of the best price-for-quality Margaux out there, and I have drunk several vintages over the last year or so. Deep color and perfect clarity. Its perfumed nose explains why Margaux is so popular. In my original note, I commented about how Petite Verdot can add a lot to a Bordeaux. Guess what? A CT member was kind enough to point out that there is no Petite Verdot in the 2004. Parker's statement of the assemblage confirms this. So, what do I know? Notwithstanding my fruit error, my nose found floral aromas (those that I usually attribute to PV) with red fruit and a hint of vanilla. No harshness at all and a real crowd pleaser. At its peak now (at least to me) but with several years of great drinking ahead.
Blind Cabernet: So I brought a knife to a gun fight, as this was tasted blind in random order against a bunch of younger modern domestic cabs. Furthermore, the order was to taste this right after a 2013 Washington cab that was the youngest-drinking wine at the tasting.
Classic Bordeaux profile. Earth, tobacco, slight funk, dark berries. This is elegant. 3rd out of 8 for me, probably would have done better for me in the correct order, but I'm not sure anybody else at the tasting would have scored it any better.

In a blind tasting, clearly an aged Bordeaux. Medium bodied, with meat/anise on nose, spice, and some acid. A tough tasting for this wine, given it was up against younger mostly Napa cabs.

This was a great wine. Burst of mocca, tobacco, vanilla, warm fuzzy aromatiscs leaping out of the glass. On the taste I get black currant, leather, well integrated oak, just a zaftig full wine. Very fine tannins. Dry finish. Wasn't expecting such a great wine from '04 but there it is.

Dim Sum Club at Mitzo (Mitzo): Better than the previous outing, this is starting to drink well. The nose was classic left bank, with cassis and blackberries laced with tea and earth, tobacco and roasted capsicums. The palate was very middle-of-road: decent depth, good balance, nice finish, good flavours of cassis and tobacco, earth and smoky spice, with not a hair out of place, but nothing outstanding either. A nice Bordeaux, starting to drink well. It should continue to show nicely over the next decade or so.

More time has passed, more knowledge has come to me ;-)
I can now better understand this particular wine and therefore enjoy it more. Tasted with food ( which helped ), salad for starter and lamb for main course.
+ Nose - very ripe, very intense, peppery, dark fruits - mellowed over time + Flavour - fills the mouth very well, a bit acidic and tannic + Finish - good medium finish, again slightly acidic and tannins well presented.
All in all, its coming into its drinking window, but it would benefit one or two more years additional cellaring.

Still evolving. Slightly less on the nose, but after 3 hours more fruits started to emerge. This is the definition of elegance. I think this is entering its drinking window, and should sail through the next 5-8 years. I would recommend decanting for 2 hours.

Very nice Margaux with good balance and black berry flavours. Just starting to move into it's next phase as a little earthiness creeping in on the smokey nose. Would recommend consuming now as in an appealing mature stage. Decanted for an hour and forcefully aerated before partnering well with roast duck.

En Primeur Bdx. 2014 tasting event, reference wine from producer from older vintage, tasting pour, short note. Not at all as balanced as the 2014 seemed. This is more brutally handled, more extraction and a bit clumsy and oaky. Plums, darker fruit, oak, vanilla spices and earthy. Perhaps in 4 – 5 years, if things level out and comes together? Lovely still youthful 11 year old showing medium/full body attractive primary fruit, plum and cherry, with a slight gracious sweetness, balsamic, mineral and vanilla touches, fresh acidity, well balanced tannic structure and expressive aromatics which lasted long on the palate. Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2014-10; Bordeaux 2004 left bank from magnum. (By VD): Drank from magnum. The bouquet is a bit locked at first, but after a short while dark forest fruits, cassis and graphite appear. On the palate well concentrated dark forest fruits, minerals, firm acidity and still powerful tannin. Early maturity stage now and will probably improve until 2018 or 2019 and stay at its peak for a few more years. Overall a nice and concentrated wine with good finesse.
Hmm - difficult to judge, as not many knowledge on the Margaux area. Very funky nose upon opening the bottle and decanting - very earthy, wet soil, stable smell ( if that is a thing ). As said, decanted and rested for just under 1 Hrs - no change in nose / flavour. Do believe this wine to be in an unstable phase, it will need more time to develop.

Giscours seems to be spot on, one of the wines of the vintage in 2003, this one is also highly enyoyable. A bouquet of blackberries, cassis and cedar and still quite young for "10 years after". The wood is nicely integrated, and on the palate it is still demanding with the fine tannins giving it great structure. I come to believe that often the "great" vintages are to ripe for me, this is true Bordeaux and might merit an even higher score. Will keep and enjoy my 10 remaining bottles for the next 2 decades.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (3%).
Very brooding dark color showing only the slightest amount of translucency, with some bricking towards the rim. A characterful, fresh nose with aromas of almost unripe blackcurrants and even currant leaves, tobacco, rose hip, some smoke, a little leafy sous-bois, hints of dried flowers and an undercurrent of chocolate oak. Dry, cold and tightly-knit on the palate with quite remarkable acidity. The flavor department is dominated by slightly milk chocolate oak character and classic Bordeaux fruit of fresh, tangy blackcurrant and supported by notes of ripe cherry, leafy herbal notes, some leather, a little sous-bois earthiness and hints of fresh, tart red berries. The mouthfeel is medium-to-full-bodied, but more about restraint and elegance than richness and concentration. The amount of tannins is not high, but they are firm and grippy enough to make the wine feel a bit hard and angular. Overall the wine feels quite smooth and enjoyable. The finish is dry and pretty long with savory flavors of cassis, tart red berries, slightly herbaceous notes, a little sous-bois and hints of sweeter oak spice.
A fresh, structured and balanced Bordeaux that shows that stern, serious side of the region, but also some more elegant and delicate sides as well. A classic example of sophisticated Margaux style. It is hard to say how nicely this wine will age: its tightly-knit structure calls for more age, but its fruit doesn't show that much concentration and richness, so it is hard to say whether the wine will hold, or if the fruit will just wither up with age. With the right food, the wine is drinking perfectly fine right now, but I can imagine it will develop nicely at least for the next 2-3 years and will hold for a handful of years more. On the surface it seems this wine wasn't meant for the long haul, but truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised if the wine was still drinking nicely even 10-15 years from now. If opened now, decant it to get rid of the deposit and let it breathe for an hour or two. At only 36€, this wine shows pretty good value.

Beautiful wine immediately after pulling the cork. JKOENEN is spot on with his 5/31/13 note. Soft, deep and sophisticated nose - very feminine. palate is medium bodied, rich and long - very classic. Bordeaux 2004 (@ Bottles; Sas van Gent, Netherlands): Although the bouquet is still a bit reticent there are black forest fruits and elegant and luxurious oak, cedar, etc. Same on the palate. Crimson in color, just starting to brown around the edges. Cassis is prevalent on the nose with other dark fruit and a healthy dose of earthiness, leather, and dried tobacco. Still quite dry with noticeable tannins, a slight bite of heat, and just a hint of bitterness. Overall though the impression is balanced. A nice medium-long pleasant finish keeps you going back for another sip. Still a little young for my tastes and defiantly requires significant aeration to show at its full potential. Five more years and I suspect this will be an excellent wine.

Needs decanting. With 4 hours air, tobacco, cedar spice and mix of dark and red fruit nose. Hint of clove. Very nice indeed. Palate: firm, mid weight and length. Darker than the nose, still quite tannic, structured, not concentrated, fruit hidden but not green.

Aerated for four hours, no decanting. Dark crimson color, with fabulous aromatics of black fruits, freshly picked berries, truffle, and a hint of mocha, the sweet floral scents give the wine a seductive feminine feel. With such a great opening, the experience on the palate took it back down a bit. Its rather light and not very concentrated, with hard press, notes of cherry, plum and jasmine tea leaf can be revealed. Tannins are firm yet tasty, and a smoky finish of tobacco ensued, but a bit short.
The bouquet is worth 91-93 pts alone, but tasting may only score 87-89. Perhaps with more aging, the experience will get much better. But with similar price tag, would rather recommend 2000 Prieure Lichine, which is wonderful.

Let decant about forty five minutes. Nose was fantastic. Showed nice depth with dark cherries, older leather saddle, light cigar humidor and some spice notes. The palate to be honest was a bit of a disappointment when compared to the nose. It still had nice nuances, but the fruit was muted and the finish was short and a bit disjointed. Thin and just uninteresting. I'm being a bit hard on it, but the nose was so fantastic the palate should have at least held a candle to it. Still a nice wine that maybe needed even more time in the bottle or at least in a decanter.

dark purple. 1st nose of cedar wood, sweet blackcurrants and blackberries, some brushes and traces of incense. 2nd nose give an opulent bouquet of strong sweet moringa, cassis, big soaked earth, with notes of red meat juice. Sweet entry with no attacking tannin, a bit acidity, very floral palate with blackberries, round and medium-full bodied. Still have sweet floral notes at the back of tongue. Earthy finish with black fruit, sweet and and harmonic balanced medium finish. Ended with a bit grape-skin flavoured espresso bitterness. Strong characteristic of floral margaux, not the most delicate nose but very floral. Easy drinking bordeaux but solid. Great easy margaux example.

Decanted for 1 hour. Smells of plums, cassis, blackberries, and slight wet earth. Taste shows nice fruit, slight tannins, & coffee. The taste was a bit flat after the initial attack, but then seemed to sneak back up a few seconds later.

Nose: Starts off smokey with dark berries, leather and olives. Falls off after two hours and the fruit turns to leather and the olives to green pepper.
Taste: A cauldron of stewed blackberries and figs with a tree branch thrown in the pot. Too much oak- it burries what fruit is there and the wine has no mid-palate or persistence.
Overall: This wine is deficient of personality and any Margaux sensibility. An underperfomer in an under-rated year for those of us that choose to have chocolate milkshakes only when we actually order chocolate milkshakes.

A very impressive bottle for the average asking price. This is a medium bodied wine with muscular tannins for the vintage. Lots of stuffing on the mid-palate and good length on the finish, the wine still appears to be a little tight and young upon opening. The nose is a little oaky with touches of spice and vanilla prominently framing sweet, ripe blackberry and cherry liqueur, followed by scents of graphite, sweet pipe tobacco, and spring flowers. There is a multi-dimensional feel to the aromatics at play here, showcasing both sweet and savory tones in a subdued, not exactly flashy or exuberant way. In other words, a classic Margaux. I love the personality of this wine, of which it has loads. Seriously undervalued wine in a very undervalued vintage.

Dinner at l'Artusi 6/28/2011 (l'Artusi): Classic Bordeaux ruby. Raspberry, cassis, rosy cherry -- v v classic Bordeaux nose; a little florality; touch of herbal. Palate is mid-weight, tannic, and mid-length. A touch of bell pepper and a pleasing bitterness on the end. Nice little wine, try again in 3 years. B+

Decanted for two hours. Medium dark garnet/ruby with a little sediment, somewhat low viscocity. Cassis, cedar, pencil lead, iron and violet on the nose. Light-medium on the palate, fruit is somewhat low but the once austere acidity has mellowed down and is now fresh and lively. Oak shows more in the aftertaste and gives the wine a nice grip up to the end. I've had this wine several times over the last three years and every bottle has been better than the last one. Definitely a food wine for now and I have doubts on how it will age in the long run. 91+-

Minneapolis Does Bordeaux (Edina Country Club): Second time trying this wine and I got dust, cherry, spice, floral and minerals. A light wine compared to the more concentrated 03. This wine should improve a little bit with time but I would consume in the next five years.

Bordeaux Event at Edina CC (Edina Country Club, MN): Nose: Big, dark fruits, ink and reaspberries in abundance. Palate: As the nose suggests this is much more masculine than the '03' and in need of more time or aeration prior to consumption. Good acidity with red fruits of cherry and raspberry and a medium length finish. Fun to try this back to back with the '03' which is more open for business at this point. Far improved over the last bottle tasted on 6/7/09.

Minneapolis does Bordeaux (Edina Country Club): Dark red/purple color. This was pretty tight, not really wanting to come out and play, but it did start to reveal itself over about 3 hours. Nose showing plum, cassis, cedar. The palate is full bodied and has firm tannins with dark fruit, spicy oak and a medium finish. This hold promise, but it needs some time.

didn't enjoy it and struggled to persevere with it. Too much acidity for the fruit. Decent Margaux aromatics but the experience fell well short of other 2004 Margaux. Preferred the Rauzan Gassies and Alter Ego by far.

Popped and poured with dinner. decanted with Vinturi. Deep red. Nice nose with wood, cedar-cellar aromas, earthiness and light fruit. Very good balance in the mouth, nice finish. Medium body. The wood and earth come along in the mouth. Smooth tannins; alcohol is slightly pronounced in the finish. Will taste later after breathing. This is better with an hour of air. Rounding, smoothing, wood and earth comes out a bit. Good

Sherry-Lehmann Advanced Wine Class (Bordeaux) (Sherry-Lehmann Gallery): Garnet red color. The nose is very restrained, only showing muted dark fruits and oak at this point. Palate of dark fruits and cocoa, with ample acidity. Fairly light-bodied, if I'm being nice, it's almost Beaujolais-like, and if I'm not, it's a bit watery.

Young but enjoyable. Lacks the depth and richness of the '03 and '05, but is certainly well made accessible. Elegant example of Margaux, but a little thin.

Nose: After 1 hour in the mag decanter aromas of loamy earth, cellar must, and faint hints of blackberry and mushrooms. Palate: Firm acid up front with smoked meats and dark fruit traces. Finish is quick. Even though this is nothing like the 2000 vintage it is still decent if bought on sale for around $34/btl. The rustic descriptor used by previous reviewers is appropriate but that should not confuse the reader into rationalization of this being a great Giscours; it is not.

A little rustic for me, especially at first. There was a good deal of iron-like minerality, followed up by a beefy, briary, plummy acidic edge. After an hour or so, a semisweet chocolate note did make this a bit more pleasing, but it never seemed wholly balanced to me.

WFA Bordeaux 2004 tasting by the Wine Review; 10/16/2008-10/17/2008 (Suntec City, Singapore): I found this slightly disappointing. Lightish purple tone. Very nicely perfumed Margaux nose with flowers, tea leaves and pepper along with some sweet berry fruit. The palate was rather weak though. Certainly drinkable, nice balance, silky mouthfeel with hardly any rub from the tannins, but just not enough fruit weight. There was a little streak of metallic somewhere in there as well. It finish dry and short with a little bit of heat.

Very nice. Deep toasty black oak and leather with a real Bordeaux profile, plummy fruit, and a long bitter walnut finish. Fairly high acid, smooth, silky with a lot of class. Very young, but interesting to taste and not nearly as shut down as I expected. Lean, perhaps in the style of 2004 Bordeaux. B

Jungle Jim's Dave's Favs (Jungle Jim's, Fairfield, OH): Nose of lead pencil, nice tobacco, and the remnants of a fire fueled with wood, tobacco, and plums. Nice blackberries up front, but most noticeable is the great silky mouthfeel. A little bit of tobacco comes out, then a great finish of licorice and a slight hint of charcoal. Really well made, great mix of flavors and just great feeling in the mouth.

Had this at a 2004 Bordeaux wine-tasting, and it was WOTF for me. Very full and juicy yet complex and tasty, the finish was amazing. Very nicely balanced (more towards the dry side, but that is my preference), and will last well. I even prefer it to the 2004 Lynch Bages, which I find a little too soft.

Quite fruity with some red cherry, raspberry and herbal, almost minty notes. Bit spicy, metallic aftertaste with lingering cherry jam notes. Savoury and complex. More like St Julian than Margaux.
Tasted alongside Wynns John Rodrick 2004 it’s a very different wine. Not better, not necessarily worse, but remarkably savoury, and perhaps showing some of the extraction that was evident in its youth.

Nothing to cover your thirst but a nice nearly intellectual sip with good food. Nor too heavy nor not too light just a really good bordeaux; especially for the vintage.

Cabernet Sauvignon (Blind Tasting) (Prior Lake, MN): Tasted Blind.

In a blind tasting, clearly an aged Bordeaux. Medium bodied, with meat/anise on nose, spice, and some acid.
A tough tasting for this wine, given it was up against younger mostly Napa cabs.

+ Nose - very ripe, very intense, peppery, dark fruits - mellowed over time
+ Flavour - fills the mouth very well, a bit acidic and tannic
+ Finish - good medium finish, again slightly acidic and tannins well presented.
All in all, its coming into its drinking window, but it would benefit one or two more years additional cellaring.

On the palate well concentrated dark forest fruits, minerals, firm acidity and still powerful tannin. Early maturity stage now and will probably improve until 2018 or 2019 and stay at its peak for a few more years. Overall a nice and concentrated wine with good finesse.

Dark garnet with a nose of baked black fruits and a touch of smoke. Supple and sweet with ripe fruit and delicate well-integrated tannins. A little light on the finish.

didn't enjoy it and struggled to persevere with it.

Grand Bordeaux Tasting w/ Jill (Binny's South Loop - Chicago, IL): Binny's South Loop October Bordeaux Wine Tasting.
One of the best wines in terms of QPR of the evening. Really enjoyed this ripe yet accessible wine.
Totally Old World in style, both Jill and I thought this was fantastic -- especially for about forty bucks.

End-of-Year Double Extravaganza Tasting: Champagne and Bordeaux--Vineyard Gate (Millbrae, CA): A nose of earth, olives and cedar gives way to more dark fruit on the nose. Moderate acidity and medium complexity. Moderate tannin presence. Mid-palate seems a little lacking, but this may be because the wine was not properly decanted. From 2012
