Really restrained heat behind the smokey/tobacco nose then it bursts open with silky fruit and a perfect balance between the soft tannins and acidity...wonderful

Very dark and dense. Fresh cut wood - oak or perhaps cedar. Cassis, blackberry, figs. Some tannic sharpness and still a bit of alcohol on the nose, along with some subtle salty black olive. On the palate, very full, spicy mouthfeel, good acidity, medium-short finish. Blackberries and black cherries. Very little tannin at this point.

Silky, intense ruby color with surprisingly youthful aromas of pie cherries and violets. Not bombastic, the palate is confident without being muscular with an ephemeral, almost feminine presentation. Cherry, forest floor, leather, all dark and luscious flavors are deep and playing well together. The wine has lovely balance, with many micro-expressions through a long finish. Elegant, yet it still tastes so young! We'll hold onto our last bottle for a few more years as I suspect this will continue to improve.

Absolutely delicious. Gave it a quick decant and rest. No significant solids in this bottle which we purchased at the winery. Very pure and elemental syrah with emerging complexity as the evening went on. The wine was so nice and we were so thirsty that it disappeared very quickly. Nice deep color. Appealing sweet nose. Wonderful red and black fruits with only minor spiciness.

Drop dead gorgeous. I wish I had more than 1 bottle. The aromatics can be smelled from across the room. Tons of fruit, a hint of coffee. Super long finish. If you have a few, absolutely try one now.

Dark ruby color. Raspberry, violet, and kirsch on the nose. Palate has cherry and earth. Good acidity. High alcohol that is peeking out in the mid palate and finish. Drink on the cooler side. Kirsch dominates the finish. Not as good as I remember. 15.4% alcohol.

Blind from mag. This is firing on all cyclindars. One of my favorites in a huge lineup. Pepper, jerky, dark fruit wrapped up with serious structure. Nice.

Showed well in Magnum at OCP4W 16. Highly expressive nose (which sung all day) of bacon fat, candied red fruits, and glossy funk. Clearly new world, there were gobs of red fruit on the palate, but this has a pleasing mid-weight texture and enough acidity to balance itself out. Shows a bit of spice on a short to medium finish. Overall just a fun wine to drink.

From magnum. Surprised how much I liked this Syrah given its New World appeal, but there's considerable balancing acidity and above-average complexity on the nose and palate to see it through. Mid-palate and finish are engaging and rewarding. recommended

I'm becoming addicted to The Hedge. Haven't had anything but exceptional syrahs from TH so far. Bring 'em on. This was better than the last bottle, about which I wrote a real review...This time I just say, "yum".

Very very nice. Opened a split....Rather inky dark color. Didn't decant. Drank over about 2 hours and it was terrific. Just bursting with dark fruit & a tiny bit of pepper. Drinking syrah like this make me think that this grape is in contention with pinot noir and cabernet sav. It was lush, big, balanced, fruit forward without being jammy....Really glad I have several more bottles of this vintage. From TH....they did this right!
rich deep nose, powerful spice filled mouth with licorice and blackberry. great just above cellar temp, but careful at higher temperatures if you are heat sensitive (of your name starts with J and ends with eff).

Decanted six hours before tasting. Shy nose of red fruits and a whiff of alcohol. Initial impression is plummy fruit gracefully coating the palate. The wine has very nice weight and structure through mid palate then turns to cranberry and maybe red licorice with an attendant acid bite which I found to be too piercing. The experience was like slipping into clean sheets, beginning to nestle, then the bedside phone starts to shriek. Still, a lot of pleasure to be found there.

The initial nose here tells nothing of what this wine is once in the mouth, gentle dark black and blue berry notes, some savory notes, dark earth, pretty gentle overall. In the mouth, wow. This weighted and feels like fine silk on the palate. Starts off very full and coating yet somehow keeps a feeling of grace. The flavors here provide a bouquet of red, blue and dark fruits with some minor earth notes in the background and the structure is perfectly integrated, the acids keep things fresh and provide lift to the flavors while gentle tannins only provide light grip and fall right in line. Ridiculously long finish. I really, really liked this. You could easily call this entirely hedonistic but this isn't entirely that, this girl has a good head on her shoulders as well. I didn't fancy myself that into Syrah before this but man, this was a beauty.

I thought all of the TH blends showed better than the Hedge Syrah. This has too much oak, not well balanced. Especially liked "the Pick" blend and "5 blocks" cuvee.

Nose still a little sudbued but the dark red fruit really pierces through on the palate, showing concentrated flavors of pomegranate, cherry, and blackberry. Framed well with lively acidity and good oak in the background, about 50% new. Persistent finish goes on for close to a minute. Overall this has an elegance and refinement I look for but still with a big impact on the palate.

--- COLOR: Garnet w/light garnet rim NOTE: Prototypical nose of rich blackbery jam & 60% dark chocolate with cinnamon. Not heat. Mouth is medium weight with slighly underripe & acidic mulberry, and the finish just becomes more acidic (unpleasantly so). It dominates the fruit. Maybe time will help? Dunno.
