  • Wow! 1,5 hour decant. Should have 3. When open this wine is just stunning. Dried fruit, tobacco, leather, chocolate and nuts. Still great acidity and the tannins are so integrated and well balanced. Will still last for many years.

  • new years eve; 1 hr decant; such a great wine here, resolved tannins, no sense of heat just lush and so flavorful, dark cherry, leather and lightly bound sweet figs. So great to have waited this long. Perfect moment. Paired with osso bucco greatly.

  • I have to bump up the rating on this from 96, because this bottle, 9 years later is even more delicious.
Leather and cedar and smoke dominate on the nose. Really draws you in. The palate is the killer though: the tobacco, the chocolate, the slightly carmelized quality, the intense dark fruit, the earthy tone -- all are wonderful. It turns into a classic "meditazione" wine.

  • Tasted blind (I literally was asked to close my eyes to taste this). Friday late night at Tim's place. Aired in bottle for 2 hours already.
Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of dried apricots, prunes, earth, Sauternes-like botrytis marmalade, caramel, alcohol liqueur. WTH this had elements of a sweet botrytis white wine, yet the earth and pruney notes of a red wine. Developed.
On the palate, medium-dry, medium- acidity, high alcohol (16%), fluffy medium tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of prunes, dried apricots, earth, green tea leaves, caramel. Medium finish.
Not going to rate this. Have I not tasted enough aged Amarone? This seemed rather disjointed and out of balance to me. Like some mad blend of Port and Sauternes.

  • nose: very deep nose right off the bat filled with rich tones of dark chocolate, raisins, black currants, black cherries, liqueur and cassis tones

taste: full bodied with chewy tannins along with deep and rich tones of dark chocolate, liqueur, raisins and loads of black cherries. The tannins are still a bit chewy and holding it back a bit right now

overall: This is an extremely good wine right now, but still a bit raw. This has the ability to be a major stunner with more time as all the materials are there

  • Stunning nose and palate that developed beautifully over 3 1/2 hrs of drinking. Even out of the bottle it was showing well, but in 1/2 hr or so started to really come out, and by 2 hrs was a real "meditazione" wine. Tobacco and leather on the nose that turns into cedar, licorice, dark fruit on the palate with ongoing smoky notes. Some slightly sweet carmelized notes that were balanced by all the earthy elements. It just keeps on rolling with every sip and echoes down the taste chamber! (I did feel the 16% in the morning a bit)

  • Some development. Like a dry vintage port on the light side. Raisins and tobacco, long and full with some complexity. Although I am sure this is technically dry it has a definite sweet taste. Tried to reindeer beef, but the wine was a bit too hefty even for such strong tasting game.

  • wonderful! one can't sense the 16%alcohol but the smoky, earthy nose with blackberry, tobacco, sweetish tastes and long finish is just plain great to drink!
