Magnum. Quite evolved, full and ripe on the nose. Gorgeous restrained beeswax, apple, peach and lemon aromas, touch of herbs. Mid-weight on the palate, again ripe flavours that follow the nose, rich-textured. More than enough acidity to keep it fresh. With air this integrates and tightens, becomes distinctly mineral. Terrific finish with impressive intensity for a village wine. Superb.

Astonishing Village wine of a hot vintage: ripe apple and citrus fruit, salty, good length, still very fresh with nice acidity. This one can go for years.

Some reduction, white flowers, and apples on the super expressive nose. Good acidity, with ripe notes of lemon, green apples, minerals, and saline flavors on the palate. Nice and long finish. This is very young still and needs time...

Medium gold color. Butterscotch, brioche, and tire rubber on the nose. Palate is absolutely and startlingly austere - dry stones and talc. Evolving as the evening progresses....

At dinner. Brief note. Pours a deep golden yellow in the glass. Nose is advanced showing roasted almonds and bitter honey. Palate too upon first pour is also advanced showing the same as the nose. With time, however, the palate manages to freshen up, and although it never fully comes around, it shows lively caramelized lemon, baked red apple and limestone chalkiness. Midpalate has a full and rich oily quality to it that commands a great presence yet manages to be light as a cloud at the same time. Long finish shows glimpses of layers of what should have been but is certainly and unfortunately marred by its advancement.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Clear, medium golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose, revealing the warmer vintage of 2009: At the beginning a bit dark and dense with lots of spiciness from oak, speck, smokiness and a bit of apple must. With air it got leaner and more mineral. Dry, medium acidity. Seems to have more alcohol than it actually has (12,8% abv). Medium+ body. On the palate herbs, apple must, lots of spices and some oak. With time and air it gets more mineral and rounder. Creamy, good texture, powerful muscles, depth. Very good length. Give it time and air. 92

Dinner at In Situ, SF. From 750ml. Popped and poured.
Absolutely on form tonight, this wine reminded me of why one puts up with premox risks and sky high prices for an occasional taste of greatness from white burgundy. Pure, energetic and focused, the wine betrayed little of the flabby ripeness of the vintage, but rather a multifaceted nose and pulsating minerality on a long complex finish. Our very knowledgeable guest guessed GG Riesling when served blind (perhaps in part because she knows my affinity for such things), but I completely understand how she could come to that conclusion. A wine to remember.

Afterparty (Weingut Keller, Flörsheim-Dalsheim, Germany): If you go to the Kellers for such a tasting and knowing that there will be some bombs open afterwards, you can´t come with a knife to a gun fight. So I went down im my cellar and pulled my only bottle of Roulot out. Although it´s a warm vintage for Burgundy, the wine wasn´t broad or too ripe. The nose showed fresh sliced yellow and white fruit, some flowers, minerals and some roasted nuts. The oak is there but in a very gentle way. On the palate the wine has a good amount of acidity for the vintage. Precise, only getting a bit broader on the back end of the palate. I really liked the wine although it doesn´t blow me away. I had the same wine some time ago and the oak is much more integrated now. I think this is in a good drinking window right now.

This was just good burgundy. But meursault ? Village ? No !!! Lieu dix ! No no no ! There are so many bottles of better white burgundy out there. for half the price or less. This was thin and little acid and little lemon. Absolutely uninspiring !!!

Bought upon release at retail wine shop. 12.8% abv. Light yellow color. Some vanilla from the wood. This is from a warm vintage and I think it shows. Not as high in acid and focused as I have come to find Roulot's Meursaults. Too me this comes across big, fat and disjointed. Tasted the 2008 (check out my notes) side by side. 2009 is not my favorite vintage in White Burgundy nor is 2005 or 2006. And I would say that Meix Chavaux is not one of my favorite lieux-dits from Roulot. If presented with a choice, I would much rather drink Tessons or Tillets. No, I would not purchase this again.

Cool citrus fruit aromas accompanied by spice, marzipan and just a touch of sulphur. This has a very clean, pure nose that is just lovely. The palate is lively for an 09, almost austere and tight, atypical for the vintage. Bitter lemon flavors with surprising acidity are also evident.

Stunningly direct and pure. It had piercing citrus fruits and a huge puff of chalky dry extract on the finish. There’s so much latent power here and it is so young but a pleasure to drink.

CV'd this bottle, this note is for day 2. Very alluring Meursault nose of hazelnuts, lemon and some chalky rocks. The palate is lively and shows a lovely balance between the lemony acidity and the deep middle weight fruit flavors. Very crisp and precise for the vintage, with lovely detail and balance on the finish. I think Roulot really shines in ripe years like 05 and 09, the style picks up depth of fruit from the vintage but in a very restrained and elegant way. Bravo.

Alcohol :: 12.8% Similar showing as the bottle a month ago but perhaps even better tension and drive, with colder tone. Pure and airy with nuttiness, lemon, citrus, ginger, peppery spices accompany by white and yellow floral tones. This Medium bodied Meursault showing good richness and concentration of very ripe fruits with excellent ripe acid backbone for the lift and support. This bottle does showed slightly better integration and harmony too. Pure and polish, with Very juicy, delicious finish. 91+

Alcohol :: 12.8% Single decanted and served. Different from the discreet, restraint profile of Leroy Meursault Blagny, this is almost immediately intriguing with its intense ripe lemony fruits, accompany by vanilla, spices as well as yellow floral and soft mineral tone. It packs a lot on the palate too. Though the fruits profile is ripe, there is excellent freshness and bright acidic backbone to support. I especially impress by the purity of the fruits as well as the well delineated, mid weight sappiness with mineral, yellow fruits and vanilla undertone tailing at the medium length finish. Very good and I thought this has the right balance and material for further improvement. 90-91+

This is the color of water with a slight green tinge, like a young German MSR. Very, very delicate. With a little more concentration, it might be elegant, but alas, it is only slight. Still, I enjoyed the modest alcohol (12.8% per label), minimal if any oak, and delicate lemon/lime flavors. The importance of vineyard site is obvious since this is a mere shadow of the great Roulot Charmes.

La Paulée de San Francisco 2012 (San Francisco, CA): Same consistent mineral/stone and fresh corn on the nose as with most Roulots tasted today. This wine's palate was a bit rusty oxidative and caramel to me. Pretty finish all the same.

Very impressive indeed and solid premier cru quality even though it is a lieu-dit. Color and body just a bit fuller than the '09 Puligny-Montrachets I have been drinking but still racy and nuanced. A hint of cold butter is the only (welcome) hint this may be Meursault.

Initially quite acidic, which is a bit suprising considering the vintage. But then, this is Roulot. After about an hour it found a very fine balance and precision with open aromatics of ripe apple and lemon together with lots of minerality. A very fine Meursault that has nothing to mark it as being from a warm vintage. A stylish wine.

Restrained on the nose with notes of rockmelon and lemon. A step up in richness in the mouth and it is quite shapely with excellent length. The ripe fruit flavours are nicely underpinned by plenty of minerality.
