(La Louvee COLOMBO CORNAS) Cornas Magnum Dear Friends, A tale of two vintages and it would be very interesting to own both...in magnum. It’s not often that we come across pristine magnums of Cornas as they are quite hard to come by but this is a lesson in vintage character and the double-play was too hard to resist. The La Louvee is Colombo’s top wine and in this case, the 2004 is for terrorists and the 2003 is for hedonists - it’s that simple. Those that know me will easily predict my preference for the 2004 but the 2003 will also have its fans. The 2004 is the Wine Spectator’s highest rated wine of the vintage and the 2003 is one of Parker’s top wines. A contrast in palate preference? Perhaps, but both are worth serious attention and would make for a devilish two-some at a tasting 10 years from now. 2003 Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas “La Louvee” 1.5lt LIMITED 3/person This wine is a showstopper for the 2003 vintage - massive and full of the game and dense Syrah this region is known for. While slightly too extracted for me, there are many that will mark this as their favorite wine of the year (the magnum format doesn’t hurt either). 2004 Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas “La Louvee” 1.5lt LIMITED 3/person This wine has it all – terroir, breed and a medium weight palate with a gritty tannic structure that is more in-line with what Cornas means to me. Almost shocking for the vintage, unlike the 2003 (which is just a great wine but it does not necessarily scream “Cornas”), the 2004 is a true reflection of this very small growing region across the river from Hermitage and the deft minerality and focus are relatively unchallenged in the vintage. Really a top effort. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY of both directly from the source with perfect provenance Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7711 Rhone7710
