I think it is reaching the end of the plateau. (83 pts.) - Tasted 11/20/2009. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $]]> http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=560256&iNote=1253377 1253377 Decanted (and tasted) over 2.5 hours Popped the cork and decanted but reserved a glass: on the nose there is an immediate bloom of highly aromatic cherries, strawberries, baking spices, underbrush and whiff of smokiness.at this point I am very excited, however on the palate, this is just too soon to enjoy so the waiting game has begun. 1 hour in: stopped showing its initial bloom. Some heat has blown off but still needs more time as this is still a bit short on the finish and I'm still searching for the fruit. 1.5 hours in: much better, more and more fruit is showing up. The nose seems to be hovering 4 inches above the glass, very nice. The tannins are starting to melt it seems and the acidity is about where it needs to be; mouthfuls of slightly tart cherries and strawberries with just enough tannin and acidity.one could say this has a nice, rich mouthfeel to it. 2.5 hours in: finished pouring what was left in the decanter and coddled my glass for a while and I can see where this wine is headed in a year or so. More lovely fruit is starting to show as more time ticks away, the finish is starting to lengthen and the wine is becoming much more settled; there is something very alluring about the Dusky Goose Pinots that I really do enjoy. This was a trial run for Thanksgiving as we are preparing a savory Osso Bucco and a turkey breast "roast" which will be somewhat sweet and spicy. We've come to really enjoy the Dusky Goose Pinot. This is a big Pinot for Oregon, but even at this point the tannins and acidity are mostly balanced, the nose is incredible (only rivaled by the DuMol Ryan, 2005) and the palate is getting there for such a young wine.
