CHARLIE’S PATCH NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON VINTAGE 2008
Charlie’s Patch Is Our Premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Made From The Best Barrels Produced By Two Hands Wines. Rich And Complex, This Will Benefit From Some Time In The Cellar.
Our 2008 Napa Valley wines were sourced from Howell Mountain and Spring Mountain vineyards. In 2008 we experienced incredibly low yields, and a cooler than usual summer. The grapes ripened very slowly and reached full maturity early in October. We went for a softer than normal ferment and have made wines with great charm and personality whilst holding together the consistency of our Napa style.
COLOR: Deep red and magenta
AROMA: A brooding, tight bouquet of blackcurrants, violets and sour cherries with ash, bitter chocolate, subtle oak, spice, earth and moss
PALATE: On the palate this is tight. Red fruits with more richness and complexity on the palate than its sibling, Some Days Are Diamonds. Firm, yet dusty tannins round out the fruit vibrancy, underpinned with bracken like spice and cedary oak. Very youthful, needs a few years to settle down and will age well for 15+ years if cellared well.
WINEMAKING: 1 pump over a day for the first 5 days during cold soak followed by 2 pump overs a day during the 12 or so days of fermentation. Fermentation temps were kept under 95-98 degrees Fahrenheit for maximum color and flavor extraction. The grapes were sorted and de-stemmed into tank without crushing for the cold soak at 50 degrees F. The juice for the pump over was screened so no solids went through the pump and was then sprinkled uniformly over the cap for even extraction.
MATURATION: Aged for 20 months in new French oak from Darnajou, Hermitage and Remond, with the balance being in 1 year old French oak
WINEMAKER: Thomas Brown
GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
GROWING AREA: Napa Valley, Spring Mountain and Howell Mountain
CELLAR POTENTIAL: 15+ years if cellared correctly
