Winemaker's Notes: A rarity for the area, the Dogtown Vineyard was planted on its own roots in 1944 and has been dry farmed ever since. The result is a dark, dusty, deep more serious wine than most would imagine from Lodi. Dogtown is not flamboyant with the fruit; what’s there is fine and savory, Rhône-like. Graphite, black tea and a spice box all come to mind on the nose. 2010 was a truly ideal growing season in Lodi, with the fruit getting picked two weeks later than normal. That extra hang time means even better acid, tannin and fruit synergy.
