2006 Russian River Valley Syrah - Papa's Block

Picked quite late in the season (October 31st), we knew from the get-go that our Papa's Block syrah was going to be something special. Forty percent whole cluster, an indigenous fermentation, and plenty of pumpovers and punchdowns ensured we captured everything these grapes had to offer. The downside? Only about 110 cases of this scrum-dilly-icious syrah were produced.

Dark ruby-garnet. Again, heady aromas of blackberry and crème de cassis emerge from the glass but this time, mixed with a suggestion of talc and earth. Full-bodied and opulent. The ample tannins are nearly obscured by the abundant fruit. This wine should provide optimum pleasure between 2008 and 2015.
