Following the perfect bloom time weather conditions, the warm weather characterizing the 2006 growing season at Willakia Vineyard resulted in optimal quality at harvest. Winemaking began with gentle destemming, after which the whole berry fruit underwent a prolonged cold soak, followed by gentle fermentation in small batches. The resulting wine lots demonstrated diverse personalities based on vineyard site soil and topographic characteristics together with clonal diversity; these qualities were then enhanced by 11 months of barrel aging in French oak barrels, one half new. Reductive winemaking techniques optimally preserved the finesse-oriented subtleties inherent in these wines. The final blend represents a lot selection of the finest wines of the vintage which were then artfully combined to highlight the elegant aromatics, sap and youthful power characteristic of this site.
