More love for 2001 SoRhos. Best showing yet from this case. Tannins fully resolved. Red fruit driven with a nice touch of funk and herbs in the nose and on the palate. Like a mid weight CdP. Peaking, but should be fine for another few years. $12 well spent.
I'm not patient by nature except when it comes to aging Roussannes and Marsannes for a decade. Golden color. Aromas of cashews, anise, pine tar, dried apricot and antique store. Thick oily mouthfeel. Nice backbone of acidity to drape the exotic flavors upon. Long, long finish. Challenging food pairing. I ended up grilling gulf prawns basted with butter, garlic, mirin, dried tarragon and smoked paprika. Great match.
Bought at release and appropriately cellared. 1/16" stain on the cork. It needed a half hour for the aromas to unfold and another half hour for the flavors to develop. High toned boysenberry, black raspberry flavors. Nice underlying herbaceousness with hints of anise. Atractive funk; saddle leather, pipe tobacco. Grenache dominates. Great balance. Drinking near peak but should keep this level of fruit for 5+ years and develop interesting flavors beyond that.
