Like Eric, I was a computer geek turned computer-wine-bike geek. Starkland Cellars inventories wine cellars for private collectors and restaurants. I also put on several bike tours a year through wine regions (Burgundy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Rhone ...)

Nose of Strawberry water. A little sweeter than most of the vintages. Nice and interesting finish with a little savory+bitter that keeps it from being cloying. -Med mouthfeel.

2000 Château Langoa Barton

Everything I like in left-bank Bordeaux ... perfect balance of earthiness, leather and red-dark fruit blend. Med+ weight, and a LONG finish. A tiny essence of that Barton-green in the mid-palate adds complexity. Decanted for 3 hours and it was singing. Brought to a tasting where someone brought an undecanted '00 Leoville Barton which was tight and closed. This beat it in spades. A lesson in still needing to decant the 2000 left-banks for maximum enjoyment.

Poured it for a group of wine lovers and consensus was thumbs way up. The attack is a load of pure fruit, but the finish is not at all cloying and actually quite complex. Two days later the wine was really singing with some savory/earth elements on the finish. Med+ body is mouth filling and leads to long finish
