This must have been a great vintage. Very pale, loads of almonds, flint, ripe yellow fruit, lovely acidity. Very refreshing and an ideal wine with all sorts of sea food. Love it!

Quite bid and bold, certainly beautiful with true tempranillo character. Purple, packed with delicious black fruits, soft tannins. Wil get smoother in a year or so I think; this bottle was even better the next day. I doubt if the rest of the bottles will survive very long / will get much addl cellar time though..

Last bottle of 6. The sulphur smell of the previous bottle was absent this time, which made this "farewell" a much better and enjoyable experience. Light yellow with hint of green, some flint in the nose and a nice mineral and fruity flavor. At first it seems a bit sweet, but soon the dryness comes thru. Lovely to drink "as is", but goes well with all kinds of sea food. Will certainly buy the 2019 vintage; it's great value!

2/7/2022 12:55:00 AM - Hi Vincent,
The 2005 Viñedos Lacalle y Laorden Rioja Viña el Pisón is (already a few years) very ready to drink. Will it develop further? Yes, I'm convinced that it wil get more 'tertiary aroma's' in the future. But this is not a matter of improving quality but a matter of taste.
To be honest, I used to drink most of my wines at the end of their drinking window. The older, the better... That has changed for me, ESPECIALLY for Spanish wines.
A few years ago I had a vertical tasting of almost all the vintages of Clos Mogador. And started to drink the most of them in max. 10 years (although the 2005 was GREAT in 2021). The same with (Flor de) Pingus and Aalto...
The beautiful thing is... it's all for our 'wine education', and we will NEVER graduate ;-)
Kind regards, Wim de Leeuw
PS: I once had a DRC-tasting. Later I described that as 'the DRC Deception'. About 15 bottles and non of them made a really great impression... the worst 'value for money' thinkable... Most wines were 'hard', some even 'greenish'. A half year later I drank a 1962 Grands Echezeaux that was one of my best wines I ever tasted.
French Pinot Noir is difficult. Can be great, but this monocepage is very unpredictable.
