  • 2011 Le Grappin Savigny-lès-Beaune

Classic pinot color, young and vibrant in the glass. Two well married elements make up the nose, red fruits, cranberry, strawberry and spice. This blend is a beautifully intriguing introduction. When it hits your lips the silky tanins do all the prep for the elegant fruit to make its entrance. The spiced cranberry and strawberry deliver and evolve through to a raspberry finish. This is a fresh and elegant wine that has very well balanced tanins and acidity. A tasty gift from the vignes in Savigny-lès-Beaune that should not be over looked.

  • 2011 Le Grappin Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc

The brillant golden color of this wine make it hard to resist. A beautifully integrated nose floats in the glass. The first hints are toasty marsh-mellow camp fire. This is followed up with a mélange of wet stone, citrus, mellon and white flower all deliciously incorporated. On the palate this wine has a story to tell. Starting off very subtle, it slowly envelops your mouth with its relatively full body. The minerality is present complemented by mellon, white pear and grapefruit. As it develops into the second act an awesome zippy lemon-lime zestyness takes you through to the finish. Where it all wraps up with that same interesting first nose aroma of toasty marsh-mellow camp fire meets pear. Nice length in the back end. This is a well balanced wine with a good focused and lively acidity, that will surely develop nicely as it ages. Ultimately a true example of the real potential of chardonnay in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The more I am drinking, the further the wine evolves, the easier I can place that zippyness... it really brings me right to Margaritavill! It even follows through on the finish now, really beautiful, home made, salt rimmed, fresh limes, Margaritavill.
