  • 2006 Guardian Peak Cabernet Sauvignon

Dense, deeply colored pronounced aromas of dark chocolate, a hint of smoke, light bell pepper note also. Medium acidity & fruity but the strongest impression is of alcohol - hot finish, dense dark fruit core. Big chocolate covered ripe raspberry flavors with an ashy overtone, chalky tannins. 15.9% alcohol?!?! Are you kidding me?

  • 2008 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge

Medium-intense ruby color, pink rim. medium-intense aromas of sour cherry, cough drop, dusty minerality, a light touch of coffee, fresh & clean, pretty with a hint of a dark streak on the nose but not overripe or broody. dry, alcohol 13%, medium-bodied. high tart acidity, fruit is not generous, rather restrained but there is a lovely sweet attack to welcome you. Slightly gritty, grippy tannins, particularly on the finish along with lingering acidity. Cranberry and sour cherry flavors. Not overly complex, but very pleasant, solidly structured and refreshing. Not expected to develop any real complexity, but tannins will likely settle down overthe next 3 years or so.

  • 2006 Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Poissenot

This was interesting as the nose showed great promise - beautiful aromatics of ripe red fruits, a touch of asian spice & white pepper. The palate is dry & clean, medium acidity, not mouthwatering or bright necessarily, merely structural. Tannins are firm, a dark backbone of fruit frames brighter red flavors, a slightly briary finish, though not green or unripe in any way. Fresh, medium-bodied, not particularly complex or layered though quite pleasant. The impression is blocky, firm, not supple or silky, no elegance to speak of, solid but nothing special - right now. The aromatics are so promising but the mouth sort of under-delivers. It is possible that there will be more integration or development in the short term, beyond the foursquare, straightforward experience it is right now. It certainly has enough stuffing to support another 5 years.
