Interesting nose of red fruits - cherry, rhubarb and strawberry, along with a touch of bramble. Lightweight with nice balance, good structure, a silky texture and a touch of tartness. No faults and everything is enjoyable, however it could have benefitted from more depth and richness.
I first opened a 2007 Coudoulet de Beaucastel this evening, but it was over the hill. So I decided to step up a bit and give a CdP a try. Plenty of fresh, vibrant, juicy red fruits along with herbs, licorice, pepper and a touch of bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied, silky smooth, nicely balanced with good acidity, a slightly chalky/drying mouthfeel and plenty of complexity. Overall a very appealing, supple wine.
Been a few years since I tried one of these - the fruit is definitely less fresh and vibrant than previously and it has more prune/plum flavors than I remember. This bottle was also a bit musty and fell apart with 30+ minutes of air. I definitely missed the drinking window on this one. Will not score.
