The last time I had 2001 Cinq Cepages was in August of 2008. What a difference six and a half years make!!!!! And I am not talking about politics!!!
This is by far the best Sonoma Cabernet I have tasted in a long time!!! It is well integrated, very structured, mature cab that can hold it own against many other mid-high priced Cabs from Sonoma or Napa or Bordeaux or Tuscany. I will not waste you time describing "mouthful of fruit, well integrated tannins, dark fruit" and other "winobabble". Just get your hands on a well preserved 2001 Cinq Cepages and you will not be disappointed.
Very powerful aroma of fruit right upon opening. Once pored and let it settle, the aroma is still very strong. The wine is very smooth and powerful, not silky smooth, but power-smooth and refined. Since I just finished test driving cars, here is a good metaphor: Pahlmayer Proprietary Red is smooth and refined but underpowered: think of Lexus LS460 Insignia is powerful but rough around the edges, think of BMW 750iL. This wine is smooth, powerful and refined think of Mercedes S550. This wine just made my buying decision a lot easier!!! Long finish with taste lingering on the palate well after you swalloed the sip . Probably one of the best wines I have tasted.
