Magnum bought at auction 5 years ago. Cork very wet and fragile (using the Durand wasn’t an issue). Dark maroon color with immediate warm smell of raisins and prunes. Decided to decant. After two hours and at 18c tasted it. Surprisingly fresh with a touch of sweetness and some light bitterness to it. Alcohol present but not in a harming way. Nose confirms the raisins/prunes/figs, some tea leaf, cranberries, cinnamon and earthy notes. Not unpleasant and after another 30m in the glass really getting back to life. Overall a very classic Amarone from one of the better growers. Enjoyable.

Served from a magnum. Remarkably fresh of its age. Color shows signs of some ageing. Nose: toasted bread, butter milk, freshly cracked walnuts. Fine bubbles with good mouth refreshing feel to it. Fruit still alive and well-balance acidity. Drinking well now but would probably easily survive another 5-10y if stored well.

Served with smoked salmon. Brilliant combination although to some the residual sugar in this wine may be too much. Served at 10C from a bottle opened in the morning I doubt this wine will further improve over time. Still have a bit of acidity to balance the ripe, mellow mouth feel. In the nose you find the typical half-rotten tropical fruits (Pineapple and mango) with less minerals as you usually find in Reinhard's wines from this era (even more so compared to recent vintages). Price taken into account a really pleasant wine.
