Not as impressed with this wine I was last summer when it was released. Still a good wine after some serious decanting, but it's definitely a new world style, very fruity, sweet, high alcohol. I had the honor of drinking a glass of 01 Grange a day before drinking this one, and although Parker puts both of them in the mid to high 90's, there is absolutely no comparison. But yes, I do realize that there is a meaningful age difference here in the two.

I have had a few of these over the past few months, as some of my friends consider it to be their favorite wine of all time. So we've been drinking them down. It's a nice, mellow, smooth merlot, and I have never tried one while younger, but it just tastes a bit like it's past its peak. Maybe it's just not my style. I like more fruit. This is more of a smooth, sipping merlot. I just personally need something more exciting for $55 - 60.

I guess for $10 - 12 it's an alright house wine, but even at that price point the Columbia Crests and Hogues produce more flavorful, complex merlot.
