This was an honor to consume. Beautifully well made and preserved. Perfect cork, cigar box leather, dried herbs on the nose. Early tasting blew off with air to reveal elegant lush fruit still with some youthful flavors and integrated tannins, plenty of finish. Textbook what you would hope to enjoy in a 31 year old Napa cab. Intellectual and game changer for my opinion of older Napa cabs. Bravo to Ed Sbragia.

I will say I’ve been supremely disappointed with this wine previously but am a burgundy neophyte. Today much better. Decant 3-4 hrs. Bricking, earthy notes fade to reveal tart but not too tart cherry fruits, medium plus acidity, integrated tannins. Interesting to me is the wine really put on weight with air and came to be medium to full bodied which was a pleasure for me. So i do prefer my new world RR pinots but this is an interesting progressive experience in the glass. Just tough being so patient with it.

3/24/2013 6:21:00 PM - We may have similar tastes in PN. I started drinking some of my older ones and really liked the transformation from aromatic overload to subtle, aged fruit. I love that bright berry flavor. I first tasted it in a '94 Bethal Heights PN that I thought would be over the hill. It was just lovely and I could not stop drinking it. I cannot afford Burgs, so just look for the restrained PNs.

Pure and clean, extracted, cool climate acidity, dark blue and black fruits. Absolute joy to drink. Head turner.
