Very happy with this purchase. Wasn't going out on a limb since TRB makes this wine but it is still nice when a purchase works out. Decanted this for about two hours before my first sip and it was singing. Very nice red fruit nose with some licorice present. Full bodied silky mouth feel with chocolate and and raspberry jam flavors. Very nice finish with firm but subtle tannins. Very nice wine for Father's day.
My brother was in town so it was an excuse to open a Schrader. As I get older my tastes are changing and when I was younger committing infanticide was an all the time occurrence. I do prefer about 5 to 7 years on my cabs now but back to the wine. The nose was reticent at first but later started showing off. Lots of black fruits with a faint floral component coming from the glass. First sip and it is very full bodied almost to the point of syrupy but not overly done somehow. The fruit is extremely primary at this stage. Gobs and gobs of ripe black fruit blackberry cassis or jam. Finish is long and strong with well integrated but huge tannins. I expect more complexity and structure with age which should only raise my score in the future.
Dark purple in the glass. I'm getting lots of floral notes mostly violets. The 2013's so far have been very juicy and this is no exception. Huge teeth staining tannins that settle with air but this is obviously a baby and needs time. Still delicious now.
