I wasn't expecting much from this wine -- indifferent producer, iffy vintage. In addition, the cork was soaked all the way through and there were signs of seepage on the foil and bottleneck. An overlay of Brett on the nose. Then some surprisingly sweet fruit on palate. Almost california-like, but lacking the cola. With some air, the sweetness moderated somewhat, and this turned into quite a pleasant quaffer. Not finessed in any way, and quite foursquare, but with all oak integrated and full of good ripe fruit. At $20, a good value. No rush on this -- feels like it has quite a bit of life left.
Strongly floral nose with some caramelized citrus rind too. Unbalanced, to my palate, with insufficient acid. Feels heavy, lifeless and flat. Also seems overoaked and a trifle hot. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed my earlier bottles (several years ago) more than this.
Lots of acid keeps this pinot beautifully lifted. Aromatics of spice, pepper, red fruits, some face-powder/florals. A lacy quality on the palate. A kick of raspberry sherbet on the finish. Lots to enjoy here now.
