  • 2010 Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz Cliff Edge

Crimson red, medium body, lots of white pepper, red fruits, esp ripe cherries, almost pinot like ..juicy and lingering on the finish. Very cool climate style but manages to balance ripeness, sweetness, oak and spice very well. Delicious and reasonable abv as well.
This has improved since last tasting a year ago...drink now or hold.
    Yum factor plus here

  • 2011 Cape Mentelle Shiraz

Medium body, shy reticent floral nose, some funky stalk and spicy menthol.
Palate takes it up a notch with a serious savoury intensity...that needs more time to reveal all, after time in decanter revealing complex black fruits, licorice, herbs, grilled nuts with plenty of spices, not white pepper though, maybe halfway between a cool climate Victorian syrah and warmer climate SA shiraz.
There is quite a tannic chinotto like bitterness on the long finish though that may not be for all tastes (esp lovers of Big fruity SA shiraz), but this just re affirms the quality IMO and cellaring potential...oak is not overdone either.
    Benchmark Margaret River shiraz.

  • 2008 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Langhe Nebbiolo

Dark Crimson, medium bodied. short medium finish.
Earthy, rustic and old world to the fore yet fairly fresh & vibrant for a 6 year old. dark cherry fruited with licorice, with some rose & sweet cinamon spice on the nose.
Needed time to open up a bit with the strong tannins integrating better with air, revealing more complexity...score from 88 initially to 92 after several hours.
