  • 2009 Lucien Le Moine Clos St. Denis

It has been more than 2 years since I opened a bottle of this. Shut and tight on the first day, not giving up much. Things get a lot more interesting on the 2nd day. Floral and aromatic on the nose. Sweet and smooth on the attack, finesse rather than power, excellent balance. Notes of rose pedals, spices, and oaks. The style of house is closer to Cathiard than Bertheau, slightly more oaks but not bothersome. Actually the 4th day is the best yet, open and lush with great balance, showing the deceptive power. Delicious stuff. This will be a beauty in another 10 years. (A)

  • 2010 Domaine Jean Grivot Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau

Third bottle of this wine since release every one of them have very good nose. Floral and clean. Crunchy and refreshing. Plenty of soils, red fruits, spices and hint of oaks at finish. Medium-bodied with decent length. Yet to shut down. Pretty good balance and enjoyable bottle. Shows good spices and complexity on the 2nd day, maintains good balance. Very good village.

  • 1995 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

PnP. Good bottle, aromatic and clean just lack bit of intensity on the nose. Sweet and smooth on the attack. Vibrant acidity but not excessive. Firm mid-palate with plenty of tannins around. multi-layered and long finish with touch of warmth at backend. Some tertiary notes but still mainly primary. More open than previous bottle about 7 months ago. Good and approachable now but I would rather wait for another few years, this is going to be a long distance runner, will likely to last another 15 to 20 years. 93-95 pts (A)

5/27/2013 8:06:00 PM - DRC were a lot cheaper in the 90's. lol. But my go-to Burgs have always been Armand Rousseau, but even those are selling at outrageous prices now.

5/27/2013 9:27:00 AM - I'm flattered you've chosen me as a fan...and super jealous you've been able to taste Romanee Conti as an introduction to Burg! Next week I am tasting DRC for the first time, will keep you posted...

2/28/2013 6:41:00 AM - The 2010 J-F Mugnier was just so great! As by my note. If you can find it, no matter the cost I would say, buy it! Incredible. The 2010 Chambolles really excells!
