  • 2010 Bouchard Aîné & Fils Pinot Noir Bourgogne

This was my first French wine. That being said- it was superb. Beautiful, crisp color. The nose is a little misleading with hints of spice, oak and dark red fruit- giving you the impression that the wine want's to tell you something important. However, on the palate this wine is light, fruity and well balanced. Just ripe cherries, red grapes and raspberries combined with notes of vanilla and fresh oak make this something special. The finish, at first, is nicely done with light spice and mild tannins. Oh, but this wine drinks well and the finish becomes extremely pleasant, albeit a tad tart. This is what I imagined a good wine would taste like. PERFECT for dinner parties or social events where conversations are key to a great time.

Good deep color with crisp, clear edges. The nose is a little ambiguous but reflects some nice raspberry and oak once opened up a bit. On the palate the wine is mature and supple with a large hit of black cherry and hints of plum and earth- it's almost bold, but not quite... and that's a good thing. The finish is nice and relaxing with balanced tannins and acidity. This would make a good house cab in any establishment that's not being precocious.

  • 2009 Bonterra Vineyards Pinot Noir

This has a very seductive and sultry cranberry color and It was immediately noticeable. +1 for table presence. The nose is straightforward and inviting, a cross between a basket of dark fruit and a clean house on a spring morning. The initial palate is spectacular- wet, clean and promising. It develops into a very pleasant blend of cranberry, plum, and green grapes. There is no spice associated with this wine. The finish is smooth, a little tart, and very, very pleasant. This was a nice surprise at $10 and has a place in my cellar. It would be great with grilled beef or any heavy pasta like gnocchi or ravioli. I'll be picking up two more tomorrow to hold for another year. Well done!
