A bottle in perfect condition. Fully mature without being too evolved. The fruit (esp. cassis) is still present, but it is balanced by complex secondary notes of cedar, coffee, tobacco. Great equipoise. Very elegant. Classic claret.

Golden in color. A deep, unctuous mouth feel. This almost tasted like a Condrieu with a little bit of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to add freshness. Drank with several different fish courses--Scallop, Roasted Sea Bass, lobster poached in butter, and it worked very well with all of them.

When first opened, the bouquet of damp violets pressed under foot was overwhelming. After a little time, cranberry became more apparent. As the wine developed in the glass, woodland notes and tea emerged. Finally after an hour or so, prune stewed in tea (in a good way). Nice length. Tannins not very apparent, but there is still refreshing acidity. This is unlikely to get better; it seems to be at its (mature) best.
