It really is great, especially with a couple hours of air. Two hours in the decanter at cellar temp really helped this wine. You can almost smell the energy in the nose. Electric scents, floral and perfume like elements. I'd say it is nice and ripe, represents the 09 vintage well. Lots of transparency in the mouth, more tannin, spice, vibrant acid and almost a gritty minerality like element. Nose is super expressive but the palate seems coiled up and not giving much. I can only think that this will improve with age, excited to have 4 bottles left in the cellar.
1980s Ridge Jimsomare Vertical: Medium red color, lots of bricking. Leather and soy on the nose with the smallest hint of red fruit, old dusty and musty cellar scents. Light herbal, dried cherry notes. A tad tired when compared to the others, more old than anything else. A hint of sweetness in the mouth. by itself this would be a decent bottle but when compared to the others it lacks freshness and vibrancy.
1980s Ridge Jimsomare Vertical: Blood red color with slight bricking. Almost a chalky like cherry tums aroma, mineral nose. Herbal red pepper, expanding nose, deep ad rich fruit. More of the intense vegetal elements in the mouth, red pepper like, less greenness. Even some game like characteristics, the most complex of the bunch, just didn't have the fruit or balance to support the other elements.
