This is a real powerhouse, rich ripe dark slightly smoky plummy fruit with fresh crushed leaf on the nose. Still black at centre, paler at rim but not yet orange. Needs a good hour in the decanter, the tannins are balanced and still fresh on the finish. Will easily last ten more years

Drink up! This vintage is well past its best. Opened two bottles tonight: the first had undergone some sort of secondary fermentation and had to go in the sauce ( where it worked very well!); the second was healthy but dull, fruit and acidity faded away. Time for a younger vintage. Anyone going to France for the weekend?

This, alas, was my last bottle of this wine which, over the years, has given much pleasure. Despite its great age, it still retains a bright, purple-red colour, paler at the rim but not yet orange. Certainly benefitted from a full hour in the decanter. If you have any left, there's no hurry to drink up. And can I come round please? Will bring venison!
