Although I've been buying Felton Road for 5 or 6 years this is the 1st bottle opened. Lightish colour belies surprising complexity. Complex nose includes cream soda (too much of this for me), liquorice, orange and tobacco. Soft tannins, great balance, body below mid weight. Complex penetrating long finish. Very finely made.

I can hardly believe that this wine hasn't matured at all in the last 3 years and remains stubbornly backward and tannic. 6th bottle from a case bought en primeur. Good nose of blackcurrant, oak, and liquorice. The body is holding up better than I feared and as well as could be hoped for. Excellent complexity. Lovely long finish and aroma of hot tiles in the empty glass. Old fashioned style. Served blind I would put this in St Estephe, so its quite atypical for St Julien. I'll wait another 3+ years before trying another.

4th bottle from a half case bought a few years ago. Excellent condition at base of neck. I was never a fan of 1985 as a vintage (although it was considered excellent) and my notes are peppered with comments about the lack of tannins and excess sweetness. At the time the 82s were a similar price and far better. Double decanted and then drunk immediately. Big nose of earthy, truffly sous bois (aka Cordier funk) at first which then reveals sea breeze and oyster shells, and finally clean blackcurrant and cedar. Beautifully balanced light to medium weight body with typical 1985 sweetness and a long penetrating finish. Just enough bitterness on the finish to offset the sweetness. A lovely moreish wine. Smoky aroma left in the empty glass. Glorious.
