Another 2008 Chard that is coming together after a rather perilous period...Very rich and full, typical of Martinelli, but nice spice (clove) and enough acidity to balance well. A pleasant but not wholly unexpected surprise given how 'blocky' these wines could be at times in their evolution.
Very well put together wine, nice structure and elegant balance and a not overexuberant mousse (unlike so many domestics). Perception of high sugar levels keep this from being a top-notch wine in my book, but w time may really take off. Would love to see them do a version w lower residual sugar.
When first opened seemed a bit clutzy - nice high notes typical of a Ramey Ritchie, but the oak was not fully integrated, and the alcohol also prominent. After 24 hours a remarkable transformation and this came into its own, a full package and an excellent example of the pleasure that a CA Chard can deliver.
