  • 2010 Château Lilian Ladouys

Our Friday night wine. Pop and poured. On the nose loads of terroir, earth along with loads of dark chocolate, red berries and tobacco. Feels mature, integrated and very masculine. Very left bank with cab sav dominating. Classic Bordeaux Left Bank nose. Ruby red colour. On the palette, everything feels right in place. Reminiscent of 2010 – balanced, finesse, structured and classic. Fresh with lots of interesting notes of terroir, red fruit and tobacco. The tannins are very mild. I had Château Glana a couple years ago and it also had similar 2010 characteristics. Of course, this has a lot of years left but probably in the early 20s in terms of life maturity.

Will let this one open up more before I take more sips but upon first impressions, it’s a nicely made enjoyable wine. Sum up in one word? Balanced. If you are seeking something along those lines, this will be one for you. I see the appeal from this producer.

  • 2015 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel

Let the holidays begin! Upon uncorking, on the nose there’s an immediate whiff of black pepper, roasted vegetables that morphs into earth and terroir with red dark fruit and cherries. With some more time, the nose begins to integrate together nicely after its opening sneak preview.

On the palette, it’s deep and rich with lots of black and bell peppers with a medium finish. The Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah combo is lovely and vibrant from this excellent 2015 vintage. Tannins are mellowing and still young. I’ve had Coudoulet many times in the past and always love it at around the 10 year mark. This one is no different and in fact feels more fresh than past vintages I’ve tasted. Always a great enjoyment and experience from Famille Perrin.

  • 2018 Domaine de Chevalier

Tasting at L&L. Decanted for 2 hours. On the nose, this was concentrated with masculinity and power. Unmistakably Pessac-Léognan. Nicely balanced with sophistication. At first a lot of aromatics of ripe red fruit, dark chocolate, tobacco with hidden meat juice and sweet cotton candy. A hint of black forest cake and ripe cherries. With another hour this transformed into an integrated version of more mellow red fruit with hints of tobacco, ripe berries and meat juices. More muted but in a good way. Everything was settling into its rightful place.

On the palette, it’s obviously still young but you get why this is such a well made wine. The tannins are fine and slightly grippy with a good finish that coats your palette. With all the interesting notes on the nose, this one contradicts on the palette as it’s soft and mellow. Even at age 5. A very bright and long future ahead. I’m convinced all the added complexities will arrive in time. Knowing this hidden gem will evolve into a spectacular wine in the future.

12/7/2013 3:49:00 PM - you asked about the 2010 VCC, for some reason i'm not able to respond to your question. as you can tell by my ranking I think it's a top notch wine and I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy it now, though I have rated other wines a bit higher
