WHY do I drink, share, collect, discuss, and learn about wine? WHY do I travel the wide, wide world of wine in life and literature?

1.The hedonistic pleasure of drinking fine wine
2.The joy of sharing my passion, knowledge, and wine with others
3.The intellectual stimulation that comes from learning about wine making and wine history
4.The deeper understanding gained from learning about the people, culture, and geography of the wine regions that I have visited
5.The challenge and hobby of collecting wine -seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining my wines
6.The satisfaction and sense of well being derived from buying the finest wines for the best value and knowing that my wines are a non traditional asset not correlating to stocks, bonds, real estate, or art. Red Bordeaux wine futures are the best performing asset class from 1966 to 2005
7.The social and conversational nature of life when sharing and drinking wine
8.Pairing wine with food and people- determining the appropriate wine for any occasion, place, time or group
9.Knowing that every sip enriches and extends my life
10.The world of wine is about the journey and the surprises along the way

Do you visit European wine regions often? As part of my hobby I'm leading a group of friends in the Loire Valley on early Oct and in Tuscany on early Nov. please reply to yagil dot barel at gmail dot com

7/27/2017 7:59:00 PM - How would know what a 1989 Chateau d'Yquem should taste like when all you have in your cellar is, well, who knows what because you block access? "Adjust inventory"?? Are you serious? I haven't drank 10,000 "botlles" of wine, but I've had many bottles and the 1989 d'Yquem is a winner and merits a tasting note.

4/10/2017 4:20:00 AM - Thanks for your recent note on the '82 Léoville Poyferré that is spot-on. I had the pleasure to drink a couple of bottles over the last 3 years. Such an elegant and harmonious wine!

1/31/2015 4:14:00 PM - I love your notes - especially the 02 Leflaive BBM, "This is crystalline minerality from Poseidon's spear luxuriating in the mouth ". I think that is the best thing I have ever read.

12/23/2014 8:31:00 AM - Hi ... I see we're both in NYC area. I am very impressed with your collection. I am just starting out and can only imagine having a 500+ bottle collection. Any suggestions for the newcomer?

7/28/2014 7:28:00 PM - Thanks for your note! Yes, you are absolutely right :-) So we're ever so slowly inching our way towards that moment when there's an abundance of mature pleasures in our cellar. As things are today though, we need to be greedy with the few mature ones. However, that won't ever stop us from enjoying bottled pleasures.
