  • 2007 Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabajà

Aromatics are very expressive of ripe, dried black cherry, with a hint of tar and sweet tobacco. Vintage ripeness is very apparent. In the mouth the wine is singing, delivering exactly what I'm looking for when I pop a bottle of Barbaresco and so rarely get. Concentrated, sweet fruit, yet not at all over extracted so as to rob the wine of its floral and mineral character. Perfectly balanced an silky on the palate in a medium bodied format which put on weight and tannic character over the course of an hour. Quite the knockout now with years and years ahead of it. Will it put on a bit of weight and round out even more? It just might.

  • 2008 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée

I liked the wine more than my 91 pt rating would suggest. The wine is by no means a monumental Cuvee Reservee, however if you are looking for a wine that exhibits all of the telltale dried black cherry, sweet leather, and earth of a great reservee but in an approachable, medium bodied very well balanced, and silky format, this is for you. I might add that the wine is 99% intact 24 hours after being opened. Drinking optimally yet will last for years.
