Wow. Completely different experience this time. Initially Very reticent nose. Needed 45-60 min decanting to open. Mouthfeel delicious. Luscious but not velvety, very unique bitter chocolate notes. Nicely balanced. Tannins fine. Lingering finish. Touch bitter but overall Very nicely done this time. Drank while preparing dinner. Next time, I won't bother drinking until its had an hour in the decanter.
Just don't think these bottles are holding up that well. Fruit fading, decent acid still. Don't have a lot of experience with aged Cali chard so please take with a grain of salt but I like my chards brighter and fresher. Prob recommend drinking at 3-5 years.
Was really hoping to find a nice South African Chenin blanc to remind me of the one I had at Disneys Jiko a few months ago. Unfortunately, I bought this one. Honestly, I couldn't detect any varietal typicity. This tasted like $10 new world Chardonnay. Overly oaked, thin, short finish. Would not buy again. $16 at Gabriel's here in San Antonio.
