  • 1990 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

Delicious. Had with salmon to celebrate wedding anniversary. Tasted from bottle, but then decanted using aerator, which opened up the fruit and chocolate notes. Improved with time.

  • 1982 Château du Tertre

Cork showed seepage throughout length, but wine was not obviously damaged. Opened 2 hours before serving and decanted 1 hour before serving. Still dark brick, showing age at the edges; good legs. Pleasant nose. Bright cherry and berry flavors at the beginning, but fading within the hour with little of the liveliness exhibited after the first 30 minutes. Structure has not survived this much time in the bottle. Still a pleasant wine with no flaws (suggest drinking soon after opening and decanting), but its obvious early strengths remain only as remnants and mostly memories at this stage.

  • 1979 Château Pouget

Decanted an hour before serving. Cork was moist throughout its length. Brick color, fading to transparency at the edges; good legs. Closed nose and flavor upon serving, but with an evident structure. After 30-45 minutes in the glass, it began to open up and continued to do so over the next two hours. Dark cherry flavors; some detected oak. After 3 hours, it had maintained its structure and flavors, while never strong, and become more pronounced. Excellent wine for its age and pedigree.
