Was it the anticipation of my first bottle of Tig?....not sure but this was probably the biggest wine disappointment ever! How can there possibly be 85% Sangiovese in here!!??....it never showed itself. The 10% Cab Sav totally dominates this wine and not in a particularly good way. This was clunky/chunky, had some good fruit in the middle but a very tart (almost astringent) finish. If drunk blind I may have thought this was a cheap Cab Sav from California without any of the warmth or charm. At this price would much rather have 2 bottles of the Ridge Estate Cabernet than one of these. Absolutely no link to Tuscany - really could have been from anywhere - San Guido and Ornellaia 2nd and 3rd wines are light years better. I have a case of 2006 in bond which I will be shipping on after this tasting.

I really shouldn't like this wine!......feel my palate is very much in the "old world" and approached this wine with some relectance expecting an over- extracted , non food friendly, "Parkerised" fruit bomb. Nothing could be further from the truth with this wine. This is just a really excellent Cab. Sav. which manages to pretty much perfectly balance, fruit, acidity, tannin and alcohol, making its such an enjotable wine to drink. Nose is lovely and inviting and although to me it is very lush on the palate, this is not overdone. Fruit is a nice mix of blackcurrant and darker red fruits with some nice cassis and soft pertially developed tannin and nice complexity. Drunk this with steak tartare and then confit duck and it was excellent with food. With this so good I can only imagine what the Monte Bello is like. This has made me think again about Califonian wines and for me, although not cheap, this represents outstanding value. Will certainly be buying much more!

Decided to treat myself after gatting some really good filet steak. This is a fabulous wine. Its an atypical St Emilion given the high level of Cab. Sav but has a lovely delicate core fruit and wonderful claret complexities with cedar, pencil shavings and little cooked sugar. Was great just out of the bottle.
