  • 2006 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva

shared with pat at selkirk manor. i continue to prune the cellar of wines with past due drink by dates. i had opened this bottle a month or two ago but was unable to finish it. no formal notes. leftover wine was stored in the bottle with no preservation methods used. had the remaining wine today. the wine still offered pleasurable drinking. dark color. rustic nose and mouthfeel. earth and bramble. a hint of brown licorice. substantial sediment in the last glass. this wine appears to be indestructible.

  • NV Tendil & Lombardi Champagne Blanc de Noirs

shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate new years day. this wine was off the radar for three reasons. 1. lack of feedback from other members. 2. poorly defined storage location. 3. sentimental reasons as this wine was served at ellen's wedding. this bottle was purchased for the wedding but not served. i performed a dilligent search to locate this bottle as i was concerned about longevity issues. the wine proved to be in sound condition. color is a little more golden than last time. slight hint of oxidation but not to the extent that it impacted negatively on the tasting experience. paired with florida stone crab from Best Stone Crab and California caviar (kaluga hybrid reserve) from Imperia Caviar. overall taste impressions similiar to last time, summarized as follows: the wine continues to hold up well and even appears to be improving a bit. fragrant nose. abundant tiny bubbles. flavor profile consistent with my favored style. nice notes of lemon, yeast and walnut. some mineral notes which tend to overtake the fruit. nevertheless, still very enjoyable. medium weight although it had added some since last tasting. lingering finish.

  • 2013 Bergström Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve

this bottle got dropped from the radar due to a failure to record its location in the cellar. i discovered the bottle accidentally while processing another bottle. i decided to pop and pour due to possible longevity issues. shared with pat at selkirk manor as part of holiday season festivities. the wine proved to be in sound condition. generous fragrant nose. prominent spice notes which i don't usually associate with pinot noir. i also taste usual dark cherry and raspberry notes. the wine develops and fills out with air. this observation together with firm structure suggests that this wine has the potential to develop and improve further. a remarkable showing, considering that this is a half bottle. need to look for more recent vintages from this producer.

10/17/2016 10:14:00 AM - Bacchus, Hello. Forgive me if this kind of thing happens to you too often. If CT is to be believed, you might have a few bottles of 89 Andre Corbin. I'd love to buy one from you. It's the first wine I ever bought that was not produced by E&J Gallo, for about seven bucks if memory serves. Would be a nice keepsake. brian@mediagloss.com if you're at all interested in helping me out.

10/24/2015 8:03:00 AM - For Bacchus- my wife and I are also snow birds, a rheumatologist and psychologist, spend our winters part time in Wellington- lets find a way to get together. Not sure how to do this via cellartracker- is there a way to send messages from one to the next or do we have to do this in open forum?

6/20/2013 9:22:00 PM - I guess that I will disappoint you as I live 70 minutes from Napa Valley and taste 1000 wines per year for 40 years. August 3 will be my 50th Silver Oak release party and marks my 56th year visiting Napa-the first when I was in the 5th grade. My wife was raised at 38th and 3rd avenue, saw the 3rd avenue L go up and go down, was on screen with Streisand in Hello Dolly. Tonight is Jackass Hill to celebrate the Miami Heat win. Your tasting notes are impressive. Great wines you tasted.
