  • 2009 Herman Story Casual Encounters

Viscous, with a dark red color bordering on oven brick with black plum hues. the thick legs show medium/medium+ staining.
    Decanted 1.5 hours+
Hugely complex and impeccably well developed. This shows the progression that Russell's wines take with a little bottle age.

A complex blend of scents waft up from the glass with intensity including violets, blueberry, brambly blackberry, sun baked strawberry, red meats, sarsaparilla, black licorice, roses, spices of cardamom and white pepper, freshly rained forrest floor and wood notes that encompass cedar, cigar box and pencil shavings.
The palate is full bodied with medium-plus acid, medium ripe tannins and higher alcohol levels though the perception is not as high as the actual. Flavors are well blended showing violets and blueberries with bramble, strawberry compote, vanilla, baking spice, dark cherry, blackberry, sarsaparilla, licorice, shisha tobacco, oak and a hint of brown sugar. The finish is long and lingers.
Overall, classy and elegant. A spectacular showing.

  • 2006 Martorana Family Winery Merlot

Dark brick red with little to no color variation. light staining in the thick legs that suggest medium-plus viscosity.
Aromas border on intense and strut complex and sexy scents of currant, cigar box, dark cherry, sun baked strawberry, herbs, green leafs, tomato stems, coffee, damp earth, mulch, sage, pencil shavings, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla.
On the palate this wine is still showing great structure. Acidity is medium-plus as are the tannins, alcohol and mid palate density.
Complex flavors show dark cherry, red currant, wild raspberries, and plum that meet the savory components of thyme, sage, tomato stem, cedar, pencil shavings, fresh cigar tobacco, earth, cocoa, vanilla, suede, and coffee. The texture is impeccably velvety. The finish is intense and lingers.

Overall this wine is still in its prime! Shows refinement and grace in its aging.

  • 2012 Stolpman Roussanne

Medium-plus intensity aromas show white flowers atop of apple, pear, white fig and lemon verbena scents, layered with apricot, brioche, vanilla, butterscotch, nutmeg and clove.
Rich on the palate featuring flavors of baked apple, lemon marmalade, orange blossom, white fig, vanilla, baking spices, creme brûlée and apricot. Acidity and alcohol are medium-plus. Long on the expressive finish which highlights the baking spices of clove and nutmeg with butterscotch.

Overall weighty and fleshy that drinks more like a well oaked and malo'd Chardonnay.
