  • 2008 Schild Estate Shiraz

    Allowed to air out in the decanter, which yes it still needs.
    Aromas still present rich at moderate-plus to high intensity. Scents from the glass offer rich, jammy black cherry, blackberry, and blueberry are laced with vanilla creme anglaise, crushed violets, baking spices, walnuts, sarsaparilla, fresh tobacco and a light oak nuance.
    The palate is rich and well structured with medium+ acid, tannins, density and alcohol. Flavors again lean on the jammy side for the fruits of black cherry, blueberry, blackberry and plum. Crushed violets and lavender upfront with the fruit as well as creamy vanilla and baking spices that pull through the mid palate adding flavors of sarsaparilla and mocha accented by nutty tones and red meats.

    Overall very consistent with prior tastings, perhaps the lack of oxidation provided by the screw cap. Let this breathe.

    I will reserve points and any notes as this bottle was flawed.
    An enormous amount of Brett that did not blow off even after 5 hours worth of air time. Shame.

  • 2012 Alexandria Nicole Syrah Jet Black Destiny Ridge Vineyards

    Allowed to breathe and showing big bold aromas that lean on meaty side. Scents of cured and dry aged meats, rosemary, juicy jammy blueberry, violets and olive show good balance between sweet and savory. Ancillary aromas of dark blackberry, baking spices, wild huckleberry, cassis and cedar.
    Dense and saturated on the palate showing good concentration of the fruit flavors, blueberry, blackberry and huckleberry followed by a spice that compliments the fruit elegantly; Olive, cedar, herbs and cured meats notes that finish with a touch of mocha. Long and lingering on the finish showing the density and balance. Acid and tannins are both medium to medium-plus.
