Amazing life in this wine still, from the first hints of maple syrup on the nose through to walnut in the taste. Really a privilege and a treat to drink something this old - tasting a little bit of history. Fantastic. Hard to give a rating, but according to the scale... it would have to be classed as extraordinary.

First tasting of a Premier Grand Cru Classé, in magnum format. Great intensity on the nose from the very start. Started drinking an hour and a half or so after opening. Beautifully complex aromas of cherries, summer fruits and the oak coming through - though all in perfect balance. The wine tasted just as impressive as the smell, with the cherries coming through strongly and a wonderful lingering aftertaste. The structure and balance of the wine were clear proof of the sheer quality of the Chateau and the terroir, despite (allegedly) being a lesser vintage. I look forward to trying others in the future.

Tasted blind among other bottles, this was easily and immediately identifiable from the nose alone. Spicy fruit on the nose, deep and rich. Hints of 'pierre a feu'. Beautiful taste, fine balance with traces of faded tannin. The flavour hangs in the mouth and leaves an aftertaste of confit red fruits. Stunning bottle, sadly the last.
