  • 2021 Vinum Dei Cabernet Sauvignon

New wine from a couple industry friends. Only 2 barrels produced, sold only via mailing/waiting list.

96% CS from GIII with remainder 2.5% PV, 0.5% Merlot, 0.5% CF; 0.5% Malbec from Stagecoach. Taransaud Oak, 80% new. 14.4% alc.

Vigorous decant, with 3 hours of air.

Inky purple-black hue...great depth and concentration. Incredible aromas of crème de cassis, warm blackberry compote, sandalwood, and crushed violets. Very characteristic of Rutherford on the nose and palate.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and massively structured yet dialed in with great precision. Finesse. A solid core of red and blue fruits is well-framed by soft precise tannins. Notes of dark chocolate, graphite, cigar box and charred herbs.

Impeccable balance and freshness through the very long/polished finish. A lovely smoky mineral tone to the finish. Intriguing and elegant. A pinnacle 2021...one of the best cabs of the vintage that I have yet tried. Stunning from start to lingering finish. Kudo's guys!

  • 2010 Saint-Chamant Champagne Brut Cuvee de Chardonnay

100% Chardonnay. Good purity and focus. Golden color with a persistent bead of tiny bubbles. The nose is expressive…crisp green apple, lemon zest, white flowers, and a distinctive chalky mineral character.

On the palate…apple, pear, and quince are underscored by hints of brioche, hazelnut, and a saline minerality. Refined and creamy in texture, with good precision and vibrant acidity.

Long, chalky finish. Will age nicely.

  • 2012 La Spinona (Pietro Berutti) Barbaresco Riserva Bricco Fasêt

Beautiful, old school styled Barbaresco. Maturing gracefully.

Deep garnet color, signaling its age. The aromatic profile is beguiling...dried cherry, crushed rose petals, tobacco leaf, underbrush, licorice and nice truffle notes.

On the palate, gorgeous full body with a velvety, seamless texture. Tart cranberry, pomegranate and Morello cherry, along with tertiary characteristics...cured meat, cedar/cigar and minerally soil tones. Still has excellent freshness.

The structure is classic old-school Barbaresco - taut but refined tannins, concentrated core of fruit. Lifted acidity/great focus...long finish with notes of dried orange peel, incense and black tea.

Clearly entering an optimal drinking window. Beautiful.
