Much better than the last bottle. Cork also crumbled and is most likely the reason the wine has not held up better. The nose is off - it is a combination of maderized aromas and burnt chocolate. But the wine has an unbelievable dark mineral streak that makes it enjoyable and unique.

Have already heard a report of one maderized bottle from this stash so wasn't expecting much. Fortunately, although the cork here was loose and brittle, the wine was fine. Definitely evolved and probably on the downslope, but still in sound condition. Some up-front sweetness gives it away as New World but then the fruit turns more washed out on the midpalate. I was craving a little more vibrancy but it still shows some of the character of the vineyard with a crushed-gravel minerality that proves this didn't come from just anywhere.
