  • Medium/deep garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. This has a developed, dusty, earthy nose, vestiges of underlying red fruit. Medium bodied, comes together better on the palate with soft red fruit, resolved tannins, balanced acidity and a medium/good length finish. Drink up.

  • 1989 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Piccolino, Exchange Square): Not a wine I've had before so no real comparators. There is a real perfume counter character to the nose and some umami notes that remind me of a posh onion marmalade. Palate is savoury and quite correct if compact.

  • FWSG 1989 Bordeaux Left Bank horizontal tasting. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Noseis clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of green herbal bell peppers, Chinese medicinal herbs, dri d red cherries, blackberries, soil earth. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, soft reoslved high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of smooth blackcurrant, blackberry, dried red cherry, Chinese herbs, smoke ash, tobacco. Almost some lapsang suching. Long smoky finish.
Very good quality. Herbal smoky tertiary complex aged Bordeaux. Drink up and enjoy.

  • Opened 2 hours before serving, tasted alongside the 89 Pichon Baron. This wine showed very well. Capsule looked good on the exterior, but the cork was very soft, fully saturated and came out in 2 pieces even with the Durand.

Immediately a little tight, the tannins relaxed rapidly with aeration. Unfolding in the glass with pressed violets, red fruits along the spectrum, and saddle leather. Still with some structure left, but not a long life remaining. A surprising treat

  • Great bottle fill, into the neck.

I enjoyed this more than a previous bottle a few years ago.

Last sip at an hour and a half after opening was the best.

Noticeable bricking in the wine. Aged aromas of tobacco, cherry, leather. Similar flavors with a medium body and a drawn out finish.

(Château Malescot St. Exupéry) Fragrant herbal, mushroom, dried mushroom and rainwater nose, that opens after 15 minutes or so to a plum and raspberry nose; tasty, tangy, plush, red fruit, plum and black cherry palate with sweet tannins; medium-plus finish
