  • Lunch in Seattle: Wow, still has dark ruby color, light bricking/fading; lovely perfumed light pot-pouri with dried leaves, cherry skin, shrooms, ferns/underbrush; on the palate, still slight dusty tannins although 99% resolved; finely balanced, really elegant , silky entry, ever so slight "sweet" aspect from the lack of tannins; you can tell this has perched on a tight rope for the last 50 years, under good storage conditions. Had no idea this would be such a pleasure to drink--with macaroni and light emental cheese and prosciutto, which was actually perfect! Fantastic surprise for such a relatively low level house--a testament to the great '61 vintage. Faded after 20-30 minutes.

  • 5th Annual Pilgrimage to Chateau Lanessan (and its 200 year old cellar ); 8/17/2012-8/19/2012 (Chateau Lanessan, Bordeaux): At the chateau from the family cellar. Good solid cork and decanted for one hour or so.
Another great testament to grand-pere Bouteiller's wine making ( we believe this was his last vintage) and although not as good as the 50s Lanessan wines at this stage this was still a great wine to enjoy. The colour, the nose, the palate presence speak of a fully mature yet very much alive wine. Light fruit, good earthy note, classic old school claret and with a good finish to round of a great wine experience. At a small fraction to other 61 medoc wines a well cellar version of this wine will for sure bring lots of satisfied smiles. 92-93 from us. If you have some lucky you.

  • Weekend at Ch Lanessan. From the Chateau's private collection

Flat on the nose unfortunately. But amazing on the palate with a fine body. Still youthfull and very much alive. Very similar to the 1952 we had.
