Has all of the components of a great wine, but in the end it just doesn't taste good enough for a big score. In fact, nose and initial flavor are great, but somehow the finish is off. It's not a skunky, flawed or over the hill flavor, just not what we want.
Deep crimson appearance, with an intoxicating bouquet that stops you in your tracks. Ripe, mature blackberry, cherry, cassis, and chocolate aromas are laced with back notes of fresh thyme, tarragon, new leather, and wintergreen. The palate is rich, decadent, and unctuously seductive, unfurling waves of layers, textures, and flavors that feature a core of black fruit, sultry spices, sweet tannin, and an underlying element of umami. This has glorious length, balance, and intensity. Gains tremendous traction on the long, medicinal finish. A beautiful, beautiful wine.
Dark brick in color, three hour decant Black cherry, woody hints, pipe tobacco, leather, chocolate Nutmeg/cloves, saltiness, blueberries, red licorice. Palate is like nose. This is a sophisticated wine with lots of depth. A great journey.
