In my opinion Whitemanholt nailed it with one exception. I believe there is still some life left in this wine and I found the finish to be velvet like and lingers for the correct amount of time

The bouquet is at first shoe polish, strawberry, peppery, and smoked herbs with brown sugar cubes. Slightly subdued and tricky to tease out the whole notes. There is also a slight volatility lurking. The palate entry is medium-bodied with sweet fruits especially marinated strawberries sprinkled with muscovado sugar. There is a tarry note and generous alcohol with a mid-palate of dried candied orange and cayenne spice. The sweet and chill spice works quite well, whilst the tannins are granular but juicy. More pepper on the finish, and the length is dry and relatively long. The VA remains slightly challenging but seems to work with this wine, adding a balsamic twist on the finish.

WCC Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blind Dinner (The Chef's Table in Café Capriccio, Albany, NY): [2 hours in a decanter, then open for 45 minutes.] Muted nose. Big and rich. Similar to the previous wine [2006], but much more backward. Needs at least another 5 years. 93-??
