I haven't opened a bottle of this wine in 3 years (see 9/11/13 note). Well, it is sooo much better with a little bottle age. This wine still has some subtle herbal notes, but these have faded and lost their harsh edge. This wine is soft, round, and silky with plum, blackberry, vanilla and licorice. Excellent length. Very good balance. Soft tannins.
Stewed blackberry and black currant aromas from the cork. Medium+ aromas of black currant, black cherry, and earth with hints of stewed black fruits and barnyard. Medium+ bodied with refined tannins that are silky smooth, yet drying. Nice black currant/blackberry sweet ripe fruits, oak spice, and earthy flavours. Good acids, rush of spice and hints of purple fruits on the slightly warm, and lengthy finish. Could be aged another 2 years, but drinking great now.
This was spectacular tonite. 30 minute decant in the glass and this was singing cherry, chocolate, coffee, earthy mushroom. Kicking myself for not buying a case. Better than many $40 bottles of I've had. I think I love Carmenere...
